Easy there, Jared. He died of cancer, but he was 82, so pretty much par for the course. I wonder why you act out in so many ways.
From attention seeking to unprovoked boasting, your posts reek of someone who feels as though they don't measure up.

No normal person cares how much or how little others make. I guess some types of women do, but by and large, it's a moot point to most. Attempting to brag about vehicles is the same, only insecure people think it makes a difference.

I look forward to you growing out of the childish phase you are in.

You're sending all the hot air (from the fire and your warm house) up through the chimney, replacing it with cool outside air being drawn in from cold sources (combustion air supply, windows, doors).

I've got the same sort of fireplace and rarely (if ever) burn wood in it. What I've come up with is I've taken a nice big fire log and turned it into a tealight holder by drilling 1-1/2" holes that the candles sit in. Looks really good and warms up the fireplace quite a bit actually (12 candles + closed flue).

If I had my way I'd throw in a gas or wood insert (pictured above), either of which makes it an efficient way to actually heat the room.

i know this is somewhat off-topic but whenever I smell a wood burning fireplace I a reminded of my first experience playing hockey as a kid. Some of the community centres in Wpg had temporary change shack that would accomodate 4 teams in basically a big square, these shacks were heated by huge pot-belly wood stoves

It might be somewhat inefficient, but our woodburner does heat up the semi-basement (3rd level of 4 level split) nicely compared to its "native" temperature.

Edit: our fireplace has a little vent beside it that draws in combustion air.
