If you get an insurance hike from 1 speeding ticket going 11 over the limit it is time to change insurance companies imo.

If you lose demerits you'll see an increase in your premium pretty sure whoever you're with.

She's been carrying the sitcker in the car for a few months, gives it to him.. and he returns with the sticker, her license and a $230 ticket.
A little steep IMO. Any ideas on how to get this reduced/erased before she goes through the process of speaking with a JP?

Sounds like your wife didn't give the old tear ducts a good enough work out. Didn't you know that always helps?

I'd take the non moving violation any day of the week, over a cheaper now, but more expensive in the long run speeding ticket. Most insurance companies give you 1 freebie, then you get surcharges on the second. I'll keep my wiggle room for the extra $100, thanks.
I really hope one day, a police officer tries to do something to really help you or a family member out, or save you from a dangerous situation. Then you can proceed to rant at him at what a corrupt slimebag he is. Unfortunately, he'd still help you, but he should just strand you, and let you fend for yourself.

Well he said this was the first time his wife would have gotten demerits. Considering the driving record, I think the risk is worth it in her case, seeing as how she rarely (if ever) gets a ticket.
You let your insurance company screw you around like that? I have a pretty good relationship with my insurance people and can usually haggle the price down every now and then.
Btw save your lecture on cops. I have never needed a cops help, I would prefer to be self-sufficient and avoid them, not that I am hostile when I come across an officer anyways. I just don't care for them, get over it.

i have gone thru a slew of demerit related tickets and non.
she got off easy, just pay or ask the crown for a reduced cost, but the time at the crown costs yourself money/time.
I was parked at stanley park for rugby practice on my 18th birthday. I got back to my car and 2 cops were leaning ON my car with their belts loaded. They immediately grilled me, ticketed me, and left. The registration on the car was expired 1 day before.
I went to the crown and he gave no leniency, told me to learn the rules

Not on your first offense. My insurance company goes as far as calling me an telling me if I get X number of additional demerits my insurance goes up.

I've learned two things about the police today!!

Who are you with? The only time my insurance contacts me (by mail) is when they are going to hike my insurance for no reason. I'm with State Farm.

weird, I live in Chilliwack and was visiting friends in Surrey about a couple blocks from the house a cop pulled me over said I forgot to put on the sticker and told me to put it on as soon as I got home, I thanked her and in fact had the sticker still in my glovebox and put ti on, no ticket.

Last year I forgot to reregister. A cop pulled me over the day after it expired, and gave me a ticket, then he said that he would check his database at the end of the day. If my car was registered by then, he would tear up his copy of the ticket. If it wasn't registered when he checked, he said he would file his copy.
I basically got a warning despite driving an unregistered car. I didn't commit any other offense at the time, so maybe that helped.

I hope that was directed to pylon, and not myself. Believe me, there is no issue for me to pay the ticket but I thought this forum would generate some good discussion, not a place for you to enter a post that accomplishes nothing other that pointing out the fact that you can be a complete d-bag if you put your mind to it.

The only thing I'd be hesitant to advise on fighting the ticket, is its very possible the cop would add the additional charge of speeding. Don't get me wrong, its an honest mistake and the fine is ridiculous for unregistered vehicles, but as stupid as it sounds, you got one break at the initial stop and probably should be happy with that.
Heaven forbid you fight the ticket, or go for a plea, and the cop power trips and demands that both tickets goto trial. That's the other thing you need to be aware of...just cause you please not guilty on a ticket doesn't automatically mean you'll get a plea. There's definitely a high probability of it...but better be prepared to goto trial as well if you go that route.

According to the Registry place near my house, a cop can technically give me a ticket if I have old insurance and registration information in my glove box along with the current ones. I used to be lazy and just put the current stuff in front of the old ones.

I'm not a huge fan of the police in general a lot of the time, but that line right there is full blown absurd. You do understand that just because you haven't been rescued from a hostage situation or called 911 that doesn't mean you have never required the help of the police. You require the help of the police every single day. Every day.
