Dave Sheldon interviewed Jay Feaster tonight since he was in town watching the Heat with Brent Sutter. From memory here's the content of the interview:
- Doesn't believe in an all out blow up of a franchise, especially in a Canadian market.
- Said for every Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, and Chicago (who got top picks in consecutive years and are successful rebuilds) there are several other teams who were not successful at rebuilds and are "lost in the forest".
- Said the Flames best line in the last month or so has been the 4th line.
- Since the 4th line is working so well there's presently no players in Abby that can come up to the Flames (basically implying that none of the Heat players can crack the Flames lineup at this point in time).
- Specifically named Stone and Meyer as the first players in line to be able to play the 4th line role if something happens to one of our 4th line players
- When Sheldon commented on Nemisz, Feaster said he'll be an awesome player in 2-3 years. He also mentioned Bouma as being a good prospect that will be ready in the same sort of time frame.
- Feaster said the Flames don't have a 'sandpapery' defenceman (Sheldon's phrase) in the lineup other than Sarich. Said the Flames could use a d-man like Pelech in the Flames lineup to add grittiness to the defence.
- Said he liked 'some' of the prospects in the minors and overseas right now, specifically naming Howse. Said he's looking forward to seeing Howse as a pro next season.
- Said he didn't move his family across the country just to sit back and do nothing. He plans on being an active Acting GM and if Ken King doesn't like what he's doing, he's looking forward to being an active Assistant GM to a new GM.

So this means if his plan isn't accepted, he'll stay on as an assistant to whoever replaces him? Hadn't heard that before, if I've interpreted correctly.

Yes, you've interpreted it correctly. He said he's signed his Assistant GM contract and it is still in effect whether his promotion to Acting GM works out or not.

Not sure how you can blame Playfair for the loss. I was at the game, the first Manitoba goal was due to Pelech making a bad read and going after the wrong guy giving up a 2 on 1 with Connaughton (spelling?) makng a good move, and then the OT goal was a PP where Irving was screened. What cost the Heat the loss tonight was their give-aways, committed by the players and not the coach, in the 3rd period in their own zone.
The heat had a couple of good chances to get a 2 goal lead, it's not Playfair's fault that they couldn't bury their chances. 35 shots and at least 2 posts doesn't really go with your theory that Playfair doesn't like offense. If what you were saying was true then the heat wouldn't have managed more than 30 shots.

Cheers, I had just assumed that they would part ways if he did not become the full time GM. I thought he said something along those lines in his interview on the Fan, but I guess not.

I think hes an overrated coach and theres a reason why hes not at the NHL level. The Heat once again got shutout tonight..1 goal in 3 straight home games..I really hope the Flames cut ties with him during this year or in the off-season..
LOL!!! Um, what? This just shows how little you know... this is a comedy post, right?
I think Brodie needed to put on a few pounds of muscle to be better able to defend against bigger forwards. He SEEMED to have some trouble physically against bigger players while he was playing in Calgary.
However, if the Flames are going to start a rebuild.. (the optimist in me still hopes for a run, even though it is looking more improbable).. then I don't really care so much about his defensive ability. I do, however, worry about him getting crushed behind the net trying to retrieve a puck. I would feel more comfortable if Brodie (and Wahl - especially Wahl now after he got that gigantic hit against him) gained a bit of size just for some protection.
Maybe I am just too paranoid? I would just hate to see any of our prospects get seriously hurt (really hated seeing that Wahl hit).
For what it's worth, in his inverview with the fan after Darryl's resignation, Eric D suggested that there is a strong sense around the NHL that Playfair might be one of the next inline for a NHL job. Also noted that Feaster is really high on him.

Harry, I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just... let it happen. Could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or... two cups of good, hot, black coffee.
Please expand then "Playfair"
Lets hear how much you know.
Let's just say that, "Playfair" knows a lot more of the back story and the inner workings than "Beerfest". LOL!! An example? Jim doesn't want to go anywhere right now... not that he can't go anywhere. He likes the city, and is learning a lot there.
