Some quarterfinal results from Pune, India are now in the books.
#1 seed Kevin Anderson made relatively short work of promising young Spaniard Jaume Munar, beating him in a rather routine 6-3, 6-3 scoreline.
Meanwhile Dr. Ivo, the ageless servebot wonder who'll be 40 in a month and a bit served his way to squeeze past Latvian legend Ernests Gulbis 7-6, 7-6 (7-5 in both tiebreaks)
Finally we have Belgian veteran Steve Darcis who had been off the ATP for over a year due to injury troubles is making a very admirable return making his 1st semifinal appearance in about 6 years as he dispatched Tunisian shotmaker Malek Jaziri 7-5, 6-2.

Dunno if he's done anything specific, but he's basically Genie'd his way out of the top 50.

Basilashvili may be the hardest ground stroker on tour in terms of average FH and BH velocity. Guy hits it HUGE off both sides.

Djoker Responds taking 2nd set 6-3, taking the match with Basil into the deciding set. Basil to serve 1st.

Tough test early in the season for the big man but definitely doable if he continues to improve each and every match. A final appearance here would be a huge shot in the arm for him to start working back towards the top 10 in a bit of a crossroads season.

Djoker breaks early in the decisive set to go up 1-0.
Can the big hitting Basil respond?

Well. The Georgian does break Novak back. Back on serve at 1-1.

Doesn't look like this is going to end well for the Georgian. Djoker breaks Basil again to now go up 3-2, 3rd set.

A good showing by Bash though, he's really come on the last year or so.

Indeed. His title at the Hamburg 500 event was a very impressive showing as he beat the 2 time past champion Leo Mayer to earn it and there's been a lot of talk about how he's seen real upward progress since Jan De Witt became his coach.
The biggest problems for him are his fitness and ball striking consistency, but he's got the game to be a top-15 mainstay. I mentioned in an earlier post that he may be the hardest hitting ground stroker on the ATP in terms of average velocity and he's a guy who can legit trouble the big 4 on his day.

Like him or not he's talented and draws a lot of attention to the sport. So long as he's not tanking matches I have no issue with him. In a sport where everyone is so robotic, it is a bit of a breath of fresh air to hear some of the insanity he sprouts out....plus he can flat out play when he's on. He's a long way from being kicked off tour.

this is like me saying that as long as Oilers fans and media don't make unrealistic predictions every season, then I have no issue with them.

Milos takes the opening set over Medvedev in a tie-breaker (7-2 was the tie-breaker score). Coming to net and volleying well thus far today.

Going to a third set as Medvedev takes set 2 by a 6-3 score. Milos is 0 for 8 in break points in this match.

Just a terrible service game from Milos, up 40-love and allows Medvedev to win five straight points to break and now Medvedev is serving for the match.
