For drip coffee, it likely doesn't matter too much but for espresso making it wouldn't even be close.
What a good grinder (burr grinder) does is that it grinds the beans uniformly so all of the grounds are roughly the same size. This allows for equal extraction from each ground and a richer fuller tasting coffee. I wasn't a believer either, and used a blade grinder for years until I got a burr grinder earlier this year. For even a french press the results were immediately better. And for espresso a burr grinder is essential.
