What is this? A hipsters-only poll?

Because everyone likes to indulge themselves.
Feel free to make your own poll where you can vote for whatever floats your boat. Angriest QR77 host, saggiest truck ballz, best new shade of Oakleys, sexiest Rohipnol dealer, favorite Khahi pants outlet....
The point is this is a magazine by a certain audience for a certain audience. It shouldn't make you angry if you're not that audience.

What I want to know is how Gary Burns consistently tops the Best Filmmaker polls year after year, when the last good thing he did was 7 goddamn years ago (Radiant City) which was a doc, and his last good scripted movie was 13 goddamn years ago.

Glad to see Loose Moose finally take the number one spot in best theatre company, and Moosers Andrew Phung and Rebecca Northan get accolades for best actors/actresses. Those two are Calgary gems.

The thing is pretty silly
Best kept secret, Inglewood? Really? It's a secret and the best kept one?
Best new trend, Cycling?
I liked the two that go well together:
best place to waste a day, Prince's Island Park
best place to get stoned, Prince's Island Park
I'm amazed these people can get the motivation together to vote given they're either off in secret areas (where no one can poll them) like inglwood or sleeping it off/snacking in the park
And if it's a poll for urban hipsters who think it's trendy to cycle, talk about coffee shops and watch indy movies how the heck does the Calgary Stampede rank as Calgary's claim to fame.... Oh, claim to shame as well.
Oh, Harper in there too.
Oh big surprise, "urban spawl" biggest waste of tax dollars.
Funny how time and death can heal a lot of things. Ralph Klein now second for most beloved Calgarian.
Anyway... Had my fun for the day.

I mean it's not a bad coffee house, but it's just not great either, and yet every year, there it is.

A lot of the stuff on this list gets voted in and then doesn't change for YEARS even though it should.
Vietnam Spiceland was "best Vietnamese" for years and years and is pretty average. And didn't Smiling Buddha lose all the artists that made them so popular like 10 years ago?

The same complaining, EVERY YEAR. If you are sad that the Roadhouse didn't appear as a winner than tell the Calgary Sun to do a best of.
Did you just move to Calgary? This is a small city, with a handful of independent papers that probably appeal to a specific demographic that prefers a night out at the Ship than the pornified, drunken, if I touch anything in this bar I'll get pinkeye experience they would get at the Back Alley.
Get over it.

I completely agree. At least Mike Pedersen did the heartwarming Lloyd The Conqueror! And that was released last year!

I guess we're too busy enjoying our nice, big, private backyards or comfortably entertaining more than 4 guests in our detached house with no worries of annoying our neighbors or maybe even working on our cars in our garages that are twice the size of the average FFwd readers trendy closet of a condo in Sunnyside (despite costing the same) to join in a collective circle jerk like this poll

What about those of us who live in the burbs but still contributed to the circle jerk?
I like doing stuff downtown too.
Are you guys too busy being super smug to go downtown to party?

Actually I love going downtown to get drunk and partake in shenanigans. It's just that I absolutely loathe it for any other sort of expeditions or purposes.

I think you have mistaken Sunnyside/West Hillhurst for Tuscany.

Judging by it's rapid expansion, I'd say more Calgarians would disagree as it appears nice, big detached houses are still the go-to housing. Join us, resistance is futile.

If you subsidize something, people tend to buy more of it.
Hey, I'm not saying urban sprawl is a waste of the homeowners' dollars, only a waste of tax dollars.
