I don't think Babcock will win. Has a team's coach ever won without that team getting to 100 points?

If McLellan wins, he should just go and give it to McDavid.

Wow actually lots of coaches have won with less than 100.
1997-98 NHL Pat Burns Boston Bruins 82 39 30 13 91
1996-97 NHL Ted Nolan Buffalo Sabres 82 40 30 12 92
Lots of not too impressive records on that list. Maybe Babcock has a chance.

That was before the loser point system though.

As good a coach Babcock is, it's not like he has plugs to work with and I don't think you can use the difference in points between this season and the last as an argument given that they tanked so hard, played the youngsters, sent down the good ones, put experienced forwards on the IR long term and did anything and everything to drop points. They shouldn't be rewarded for failure again.
That's not to mention that they picked up a legit number 1 goalie and sought after free agent defenceman and have in the last 9 drafts picked 1, 4, 5, 5, 7 and 8.
Torts should get it because their turnaround was legit. I'd be surprised if he did get it though.

They should stop giving this award to flashes in the pan. Babcock is a deserving winner in terms of the season he had, plus he is arguably the best coach in the NHL.

I think Guy Boucher should've been nominated, he's done a great job from nowhere in Ottawa.

Torts and Babcock are excellent choices. T-Mac's primary job was making sure that the gate hinges were oiled for McDavid and announcing "Talbot's starting tonight"
He didn't have anything significant in terms of injuries to deal with, and he had a baby poo soft schedule.
I'm not saying that I don't like T-Mac, his hair is clearly coach of the year calibre. but lets be honest he's the Bob Hartley of this years class, he road a lot of good fortune and unsustainability to the nomination.

The Jackets 50 wins and 108 points would have been the greatest regular season in Maple Leafs history for comparison sakes and was achieved by with a roster featuring Cam Atkinson as it's leading scorer and Sam Gagner top five in team scoring. It's not a slight against Babcock and more that he's up against a coach that got an incredible season from an incredibly mediocre roster.

The Blue Jackets roster is not "incredibly mediocre."

Their forward group is pretty underwhelming, at least for a 100+ point team.
Their D and goaltending is an embarrassment of riches though.
Johnson - Jones
Werenski - Savard
Murray - Prout
Bobrovsky
Korpisalo
Ridiculous. Just stacked.

It is not sexy, but their forward group is quite deep. CBJ had ten forwards who scored 10 or more goals.

That's my opinion. Mediocre isn't bad, it's just not great. They have some nice young pieces in Atkinson, Wennberg, Jones, Werenski and Bobrovsky but that's far from what I consider a really good roster as they lack a single forward that looks elite level. When you look at the teams over recent history that have recorded seasons close to 110 points this roster is totally out of place as they were universally picked to miss the playoffs prior to the season.

I don't disagree, it just doesn't have that top end that makes it pop. Make you go "wow".
Especially at center, which is probably a big reason why Pittsburgh made such quick work of them despite the 50 win season.

Torts should win it, but I wouldn't be surprised if Babcock does because Toronto.
I'm surprised that Mclellan got nominated. I thought Boudreau in Minnesota would be the third.
