I'm going to try and watch, and I'll bring my HD cam. If he's coming in from the south, I'll be able to catch it.

The best place was about 67 years ago over most major cities in Germany.

Oh snap!
Best place to watch? Depends on what runway they land on, that of course is dependant on the winds at the time of its arrival tomorrow.

Reminds me of this classic aviation joke.....
Quote:
The German air controllers at Frankfurt Airport are a short-tempered lot. They not only expect one to know one's gate parking location, but how to get there without any assistance from them. So it was with some amusement that we (a Pan Am 747) listened to the following exchange between Frankfurt ground control and a British Airways 747, call sign "Speedbird 206":
Speedbird 206: "Top of the morning, Frankfurt, Speedbird 206 clear of the active runway."
Ground: "Guten Morgen. You vill taxi to your gate."
The big British Airways 747 pulled onto the main taxiway and slowed to a stop.
Ground: "Speedbird, do you not know where you are going?"
Speedbird 206: "Stand by a moment, Ground, I'm looking up our gate location now."
Ground (with arrogant impatience): "Speedbird 206, haff you never flown to Frankfurt before?"
Speedbird 206 (coolly): Yes, once, in 1944, but I never landed."

With the current forecast it is most likely that they will use runway 34 for arrival. However 34 is closed until 12pm, so hopefully it will be up and running before the scheduled arrival after that.
Best place to watch 34 arrivals would be the big viewing area just off McKnight, the Mohawk gas station used to be there also.

I would check the wind direction. if from the north, by the old mohawk would be good, if from the south up on the airdrie side would be better

Just saw it fly over 17th! My family is watching it land today to honour my grandfather who flew one in WWII. So glad I got a chance to see it in flight! Thanks for the post.

Wow, what an amazing sight! The viewing areas around the south end of the airport were just packed with people.
I was in a spot in the southeast corner of the field, the sound of those merlin engines on the flyby and coming in to land were pure beauty.
I'm hoping to have my pictures up this evening.

I figured Art's images needed a little colour correcting and since he's at work without the capability...

Here are a few images I took of a Lancaster and two Spitfires doing a flyover of Juno Beach on the 60th anniversary of D-Day in 2004 (which also happened to be the day after the Flames lost Game 6 of the finals in 2OT ):
Photos really can't do it justice. The sound of six Merlin engines screaming overhead was something I'll never forget.

I saw it fly over my office this afternoon ( rather heard it from a mile away!) what a great sight to see an old war horse like this still aloft! my Grand Father ground crew in the RAF, and has a pic of his crew infront of one of these and a spitfire. what a sight it would be to see a whole sqadron of these pass overhead,
