Searching for your Flames game on 50 Sportsnet channels that all have the same game is pretty annoying, while they play OT for the Leafs and the shootout.

It’s all via streaming, so there is never any overlap/anything like the problem you’re describing (you just pick the game you want to watch). I don’t know how it would translate to traditional cable but I would assume there would be a separate rights holder for that side of things (though hard to say).

I'm interested to see how the next Canadian broadcast deal shakes out. I'm thinking a mixture of streaming, TSN, and unfortunately probably Rogers handling regional rights for the Western teams.

Why would the league not try to own another week night? Football occupies Monday in their biggest growth market's minds.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Also Wednesday night is the big national double header night, their most important night of the week during the regular season.

Can they sell Ron MacLean to a ship sailing slowly up the Amazon?

At least let TSN counter it.

I mean, it's not that hard either. You just make next years location for Hometown Hockey Tabatinga Brazil and then kind of forget to book the return trip.

AWS does hosting/connectivity/streaming, better than those Rogers idiots, so in that sense its a win.

Its time to get a 'Hometown Hockey Rink' at McMurdo Station!
Send Ron!

Oh great, you're going to end up with the way soccer is televised in the UK, where three different providers have games, if you want to choose what you watch you have to subscribe to all three.

Same and I also concur that it works far better than the Sportsnet app.
Rogers needs to focus on maintaining quality though. The difference between the games on Saturday vs games the rest of the week is night and day. Hockey night in Canada is miles ahead of all of their other coverage and it isn't even close.
I would be perfectly fine with Amazon taking over or having even CBC taking on more games.
Also one last thing, eliminate blackouts... They are absolute dogwater and shouldn't exist in 2024.

We need some fresh faces, new voices, and most importantly, no one from Rogers should even be in the mix for the Amazon broadcasts. It's time to move away from Rogers' awful brand and bring in something new and exciting.

Rogers isn't the best in terms of production (though they're certainly better than a lot of U.S. broadcasters like Bally's and MSG). But you can't deny that the deal has been especially good for Flames fans. Something like 40 Flames games per year are shown nationally under the deal and it's all on one platform. We forget that when TSN did the national games, there was usually closer to 15-20 Flames games shown across the country if that. Those outside the Flames market appreciate this a lot more.
If the NHL comes back with some sort of TSN/Amazon/Sportsnet hybrid (or even more, who knows) fans will have to subscribe to a handful of services to get the same number of games, if it's even possible to do.

This is a good point. As much as people don’t like Sportsnet (I don’t) they should be prepared for the possibility of the next iteration being “better” in some ways, but much worse in terms of availability and cost if they split rights up.
