That's all it comes down to... reception on iPhones and any of the newer phones will never be as good as it once was, but the devices are a lot more capable.
|
that's not true. all the carriers are adding new towers all the time to improve coverage, it won't be that long until they have enough where the HSPA coverage equals that of CDMA along with the huge speed increase

What you just said doesn't negate what I said. Reception on the devices themselves won't be as good, but indeed coverage can be improved by the carriers to remedy that. Example... 5 bars on an iPhone from a tower 5 km away, and 5 bars on an BB from a tower 10 km away. Perceived reception is inferior on the iPhone, but 'coverage' is equal.

Rogers, Bell, and Telus have been doing this for 30, 25, and 20 years, respectively. If you think Shaw's network will be perfection right at its launch... by all means go right ahead and switch.

So far I find that my telus iphone (in tuscany) has 1 less bar than rogers almost anywhere in my house. In my basement where I spend most of my time (tv computer etc) I'm betting 2-3 bars on Rogers sometimes 4, and on TELUS 1 bar/2 bars sometimes no bars. now, whats aewsome is as I type this my telus i phone has 3 bars. now 2. Rogers has 3 bars ok now 2.. and telus has 3. argh
Ok so maybe my results are a bit preliminary right now.
edit: ok telus phone is back to flat lining at 1 bar. ffs.

Telus apparently did a whole lot better job covering Lethbridge than they did Calgary. Granted, were 10 times smaller. Back when I had my iPhone (oh the horror) I never had problems within the city and I definitely don't now with my Android phones. 5 bars everywhere and nice data speeds.

Had an idea!

Personally both Rogers and Telus have pretty amazing coverage in Alberta.
Come to Manitoba for a while and you'll see why.

my house in tuscany disagrees. my telus iphone lost connection 3 times in the one day i had it. it was 1 bar in my basement hte whole time, and always 1 bar less than the rogers one upstairs. how does a phone lose signal in a 2nd story of a home in NW calgary??

NW Calgary has the worst reception in the city.
I work in all areas and the NW especially around Tuscany and Royal Oak always have the lowest signal bars.

yeah telus seems to be having issues out there for sure. my friends blackberry on CDMA has lousy reception in my basement, and before when I wsa on a LG phone with telus many moons ago i was lucky to get 2 bars or so thru out the tuscany area. really disappointing.

Do you actually, measurably, drop more calls in the NW though? Lower signal levels on digital phones doesn't mean you'll have worse reception from a call quality standpoint.
