saw some incredible ones a few weeks ago camping in K country. Haven't seen any in the summer like that in many years. I was spoiled growing up in the north, we saw them all the time in the Ft McMurray area.

We've had some crazy ones the last few nights in Iceland, but my camera is on loan to my niece. Have to get it back asap, although they are saying next year is going to be rather spectacular, well next 2 years.

Major northern light storm watch in effect tonight...
They're being reported south of us, even as far south as Arkansas and the Carolinas which is rare.
Clouds might be ruining the show here at the moment though.

Major Northern Lights show expected tonight, (Tuesday), after a massive solar storm.
Quote:
A massive explosion on the sun's surface, which has triggered the largest solar radiation storm since 2005, is expected to trigger an "amazing" show of aurora borealis, or northern lights, scientists say.

Quote:
That said, those looking for a light show on Tuesday night might be in for a treat. Rodriguez said that "in Canada, maybe in the northern United States," the aurora borealis will be "a pretty amazing sight."

You can see them better if you go outside the city where there's less ambient light.
Beyond that, all you should have to do is face north and look up.

Thanks for the tips, I'm in the SE, thinking about heading east on 22X to get away from the lights of suburbia.
Is there an optimal time tonight predicted??

I was on a hill in the NW around Tuscany, couldn't see anything, although not really a surprise, a bit of clouds. . . Any ideas if heading west would be productive, any areas anyone would suggest from tuscany?

Just took a walk around the windswept property in the pitch black southwest of the city a few minutes ago and nothing dramatic happening overhead. A few bits of cloud.
