And I believe you're able to dress 5 AHL vets per game, so the Heat could easily acquire a couple from teams with too many veterans without putting themselves out. Gives them the chance to wait to see how camp shakes out and then be choosey.

Hopefully the Heat acquire some AHL veteran scorers. Or it's gonna be another ugly season for them.

The thing is they couldn't win with all the vets they had last season anyways, so they may as well give the spots to our prospects.

They couldn't score goals last year. They need some vets to supliment the prospects. If they aren't putting these kids in a position to win, I find this to be counterproductive to their development.

I hope they are just preparing for injuries. Because if the Flames run with 13 forwards, 7 defensemen and 3 goalies to start the season that leaves by my count 16 forwards, 7 defensemen (not counting Sieloff or Culkin) and 2 goaltenders to be sent down, 3 of the forwards and 1 defenseman would be on AHL deals.

apparently according the to Calgary Herald McKelvie is signed to an AHL deal again this season, in a piece about McKelvie (there is a link in the GT for the game in Calgary vs. the Isles) they say he is signed and will be with Abby
Also the Heat will be back on the radio this year
http://www.abbynews.com/sports/heat/news/224125711.html
sounds like a college radio station but its better than nothing and could actually be a smart move as many college students will be from outside the Canucks region and could embrace the team.

Hey children. Follow me on Twitter ( @MCaddd) for updates from Heat training camp. Also, no pressure, but you can keep following me throughout the season for player quotes and game time tweets and cool stuff like that.

I wonder if McKelvie will play defence or will they keep him as a forward now?

So if Knight, Reinhart, Street, and Granlund are all sent down. Who will likely be playing C for the Heat?
I'm actually happy that they have gone younger and their prospects will be playing important roles this season. It may take a little time, but I think the Heat will end up a lot stronger in the long-run.

Dean Arsene was signed to a PTO. So he'll be around for at least 25 games this season. Perhaps more depending on how he does.
He's an Abbotsford guy who asked Ward if he could play for the team this season. Craig Conroy obliged.
In fact, here's a Dan Kinvig article on him: http://www.abbynews.com/sports/heat/...oIEEZQ.twitter
