By surrendering a 2nd rd pick for a guy that is super popular with team mates, a guy that will fit in immediately, and a guy that plays a role they have no one else to do....i think its a bargain from the TB viewpoint.
Nashville creates a bunch of cap space for a possible Mitch Marner deal maybe? plus adds a late 2nd rd pick.
Win win for both sides and a huge win for the player.

Traded McDonagh for a 2.5M AHLer capdump.
Then paid a 2nd to bring him back at the same caphit, at the age of 35.
Paid 1st + 2nd + 3rd + 4th + 5th for Jeannot.

The push to analytics etc have been so helpful.
But to assign zero value to intangibles to me is the biggest fail.

?
Intangibles are, by definition, not measurable themselves. I'm not sure what value you're expecting them to be assigned. If they affect the outcome of a game, however, the effect they have is measurable... and that's what analytics are. They measure the outputs of a player or team, and intangibles are the inputs.
No one "assigned" zero value to intangibles.

Well aware of what analytics are, thanks.
You often see a player from the analytics crowd summed up by age, contract, play driving stats and production with an assessment of being over paid.
They never take into account that some humans make other humans better.

Yeah that tends to happen to championship teams...they cant keep everyone.

Right...because as mentioned, they have not been the same team without him. Oh, and he is an elite defensive defenseman.

Really not sure what that has to do with re-acquiring RM....a defenseman?

If this was true would there not be a tangible measurement of it?
WOWY was something they used back in the day, I am not sure if they have expanded on that?

WOWY is more about combinations ... a forward line or a defense pairing.
A player's value within the culture is also a thing (in my opinion).

I think you got me wrong. I agree with you, but those are the reason for the original joke/comment.
I think the Jeannot trade was bad for TBL. Aside from that McDonagh looked like he lost a step in NSH, before looking great again this season. I definitely get the thinking behind the trades from Tampa's perspective.
