I have no idea exactly what it is but players who have played in Russia have said before games they are given something which they call gas that helps them play better. No idea if it's an illegal substance or not.
Spittin chiclets crew have talked about it a lot when talking to Russian players.

Likely the least important part of this. The guy is making his way to an early grave at this rate. If the risks of losing millions of dollars aren't enough to convince him to stop doing whatever he was doing he is deep in the clutches of addiction and that rarely ends well.

Very rarely are stimulants like that legal. My guess would be amphetamines of some variety.

I’ve never heard Coke called gas, it’s always been weed.
He was suspended before, but it can’t be Coke? They would have to shutdown the playoffs if they tested for Coke.

I'm sure he knew he would, be getting tested as part of the phase 2 program. I guess the addiction was too much. Hopefully he can get some more help and get back on track.

Years ago gas and juice were common nicknames for steroids.

I’ve heard gear and juice. Gas was always weed.
I doubt it’s roids. Not sure how being bulky helps hockey players.
Didn’t the league have an issue with players taking allergy meds before games or something.

First of all he's clearly a troubled man and hopefully gets the help required to get his life back on track and substance dependance in the rear view mirror. He's in stage 3 of Player Assistance. Clearly a suspension is part of that but what happens if he doesn't get reinstated? Do the Avs get cap relief for the last four years of the deal?

Toradol and an amphetamine seems to be what the Russian "Gas" is.

And not all 'roids make athletes "bulky".
Most are used to repair damaged tissue and allow much faster healing of muscle related breakdowns-very useful to a hockey player.

Ouch. I believe he has a wife and kid. He needs to get that stuff under control for their sake.

Why wouldn’t they?
The conspiracy theories will be interesting. Just like stashing Landeskog on LTIR for 2 years.

Unfortunately that’s how addictions work. Not always optimal timing.

Why would you voluntarily enter a program that can result in suspensions and no pay? I don't pretend to know anything about recovery programs.
Incentivized to hide from problems and not seek help?
