I'm a tad concerned about Markstrom's performance if they plan on trading him. He's now 87.8% in the four games without Tanev.

That save percent is worse than any of the Devils new goalies

Rebuild, retool, refresh, who cares what word they use? It is what it is. At least this time they had to trade the core before it completely aged out.

It makes a difference. Last so called rebuild had us picking up Hudler and Wideman way too early in the rebuild. That was a retool.
This summer will tell us alot

When you say they have the assets to secure Iginla, it takes a team willing to give him up to make that happen.
If he truly is the answer to our problems, presumably teams would be reluctant to give that up.
Much like trading Markstrom for Mercer, our much needed centre.

I don't think it's fair to expect an 18 year old drafted outside the top 10 to be the "answer to our problems". Especially a winger.
Now if the Flames won the lottery...

I strongly suspect the Flames will end up back in the top 10 by the end of the season. They have one of the weaker rosters in the league, especially on defence, and a very tough schedule coming up.

unfortunately, I think this team is going to be bad for a while and we will have to acquire many answers to many problems

A lot of the teams around 63 to 67 points did not sell like the Flames did. I think we pick around 8 to 11

Weren't there rumors they offered Lindholm 8 x $9M? That would have been an overpayment and a disaster of a contract. We should all be extremely thankful he turned that down.
They definitely made rebuilding moves this year which was good to see. But these moves were forced on them so I still don't know what their commitment level to an actual rebuild is.
They need to bottom out for a few years and hope they hit a couple elite players with those picks. These curremt moves and future UFA moves hopefully create depth, but relying on these moves to build your core is unlikely.

Ten years from now I do believe this period of time will be looked at as when Craig Conroy righted the ship for this franchise.
He has 100% confidence from me.
