OP asks about depth, then lists only first line for each team. That is the antithesis of depth. Depth is lines two through four, then your extra bodies, then what you have got immediate call ups. The focus on the top line pretty well guarantees that Edmonton is number one, seeing they have the best and most dynamic offensive player in the game. When you get past that, Edmonton crashes very hard, very quickly. Try merging the rosters and tell me where the players would slot?
Centers
McDavid, Monahan, Draisaitl, Backlund, Jankowski, Ryan, Strome, Brodziak
RWs
Neal, Lindholm, Frolik, Brouwer, Lazar, Rattie, Puljujarvi, Kassian, Aberg, Caggiula
LWs
Gaudreau, Tkachuk, The Tenderness, Bennett, Lucic, Rieder, Kharia, Hathaway
Defense
Giordano, Hamonic, Brodie, Larsson, Hanafin, Sekera, Nurse, Klefbom, Stone, Kulak, Russell, Benning
Depth is important and this exercise shows where the depth really is.

I mean, one would think Puljujuarvi would be first line RW over Rattie, or they'd move Lucic to his off-wing or something.
Weird.

Other lines will be coming over the next few days, then defense.

Puljujarvi has struggled all over the Oilers lineup, which is typically why he has not had a lot of playing time with McDumbass. But even with the amount of playing time he has had on the top line his scoring stats are underwhelming.
Lucic is an offensive black hole who is simply far too slow to be even remotely effective on McDullard’s wing.
He may be one of the best players in the world, but this idea that McDillybar makes every other player a scoring threat is simply false. There is a reason why Todd MacLellan has had to resort to loading the top line with his only two consistent scoring forwards time and again.

So Edmonton has better top end centers, but the Flames have better center depth, wingers, and defence.

This web site has a rating system for all the lines for each team.
Calgary has 10 red players (above average) to Edmonton's 6

That site actually ranks us poorly I would say.
Our forward lines are ranked 20th, 18th, 24th and 11th best.
Edmonton is ranked 12th, 23rd, 30th, and 13th.
I am not sure what method they are using to rank each player and line, but while we are a step above our northern rivals at almost every spot - still nothing to brag about.

Yeah, it looks to me like red is bad and green is good, but in that event, Calgary has 5 green forwards to Edmonton's 3, and 4 red forwards to Edmonton's 6.

He doesn't even have maroon to clean up his garbage.
|
Well, it appears Cap Crunch took last year's totals from the players he is projecting onto the top line for the coming year and added them up.
So the Oilers only have credit for 70 goals from the top line last year, but RNH missed 20 games and wasn't on the top line for most of the year, and Rattie only played 14 NHL games period.
Draisaitl, Maroon, Caggiula, Lucic, Cammalleri, and Puljujarvi also spent time on a line with McDavid so getting a true number of goals scored for the first line would be difficult. I'm confident it would be a large number though. Every player does better with Mcdavid than away from him.
Rattie was on pace for 30 goals in that short audition with Mcdavid which is why people are predicting he will start this season on the first line.
Whether that is actually the case remains to be seen. If Rattie starts the season hot then he might stay there, but any sign of slow down and he's probably punted from the line.
Regardless, I think whoever ends up as the RW for Mcdavid is a good bet to score at least 20.

Spencer Foo was on a 40-goal pace last season, and no one in Calgary is pencilling him in on the top line.

Calgary has Neal. Edmonton's RW is pretty open.
I mean Draisaitl has shown to be elite at RW, but it appears the Oilers want to try to keep him at center.
Rattie had a good showing like Maroon did three years earlier so fans are speculating he will get the first crack.
Might be Puljujarvi or Yamamoto though. Who really knows.

Whoosh.
My point being that describing Ty Rattie's very short audition on the top line at the end of the season as a "30-goal pace" is patently ridiculous. He is not even an NHL player on most other teams.

It's a factually correct statement. Of course no one really knows if he will be able to keep up that sort of production.
That's why I followed that sentence with this:
Whether that is actually the case remains to be seen. If Rattie starts the season hot then he might stay there, but any sign of slow down and he's probably punted from the line.
Seems to me like you are just trying to be antagonistic for the fun of it. Odd behavior for a forum mod.

Well, if McDavid, Draisaitl and RNH all play centre maybe. But they never do. And Draisaitl hasn't really shown to have excelled at centre. His best days have been on wing. And now they are playing RNH on wing.
Based on what appears to be their current mode, McDavid is better than Monahan, but is Draisaitl a better C than Backlund? Over the course of their careers, I'd say no, but in any event it's not a clearcut advantage. Then you are looking at Strome and Khaira versus Jankowski/Ryan/Lindholm/Bennett (whoever gets centre). I'd put any two of Calgary's possible centres up over Strome/Khaira.

My declaration about future 40-goal scorer Spencer Foo was also factually accurate, but that does not mean that it qualifies as useful information or an even remotely plausible projection.
Ty Rattie is a terrible option to have pencilled in on the Oilers top line, and the fact that he is a likely candidate to play there only reinforces how unfathomably bad that collection of forwards is after four #1 draft selections and two more top-five picks over the past seven years. Only in Edmonton is journeyman Ty Rattie touted as a potential 30-goal scorer.

"Antagonistic" about the Oilers? This is a Calgary Flames fan forum.
