Why do people like Nichuskin's game so much? He reminds me of a selfish guy playing road hockey

That's selling Iginla short. Nichushkin has never been nearly as productive unless you're specifically looking at Iggy's sophomore year. Maybe you're talking about the "eye test" but fact is Nichushkin has 20 goals in 139 career games. Iginla scored more in his rookie year alone. Nichuskhin will be lucky to be half the player Iginla was but even that's looking like a stretch right now. He's got 6 goals this year. People will point to injuries, and that's fair, but it doesn't change the fact that he's on on downward trajectory despite being given every opportunity by a very good team.

I have heard that the Stars would consider moving Nikushkin or Honka if the right piece came along. I don't suspect rental players qualify though but you never know?
A big, young, fast winger is what this team needs but we certainly not give up anything major for Nikushkin.
With Dalla having such a high cap hit for goalies I wonder if a Nikushkin/Lethonen package could be had with the goaltender bringing the price down a little?

The Stars are trying to win now and they have a real chance this year to be fighting to come out of the West to play the Capitals. If they aren't liking nichuskin's development trajectory and possible injury concerns, adding Hudler to their top 6 and a depth 2 way defender for their playoff run could be extremely enticing.
This is absolutely possible. Like the OP of the speculation states, there's risk for both sides, if the UFAs walk / if Nichuskin busts. Long term upside potential for the Flames and short term upside for the Stars.

Lol how awesome would it be if we got Nichushkin and then one of Laine/Puljujarvi in the draft, in the same calendar year. Last calendar year Treliving shored up our D with Dougie and Kylington, this year he fixes RW?
EDIT - Don't see it posted in the Trade Speculation/Rumors on HF, may as well test the waters.

Who gives up on Nichushkin a year after major hip surgery? No one should. I mean if they want to trade their beast RW prospect for whatever, I am totally down to get that guy on the Flames. That'd be mind blowing. But Nill would be insane in my humble opinion.

Who knows, maybe Nill isn't a huge fan of the guy, he was on the job all of two months before the 2013 draft, don't know how much input he had might have deferred to the scouts at the time.

It could also be shrewd GMing to get high value for a prospect you feel is on the way down.

I'd take our chances with two expiring UFA's

Nichushkin for two UFA's. Sounds like a great trade for the Stars. I really see the value.

If Hudler and Russell were traded for Nichuskin, Flames would clearly win.
When's the last time Nill actually lost a significant trade? I can't recall

Told by an NHL & NHLPA source that 2016-17 cap could go down as much as $4 million. If true, interested in what that does to trade deadline

Why? What if the Stars win the cup with both players playing key roles? At that point Nichushkin could go supernova and it would still be a win for the Stars. The point is to win the cup, not to assemble the best group of prospects.

It shouldn't effect that much I'm going to guess. You don't wanna trade for that extra $4 million just to find out the cap isn't going up.

Surely there would be a fuss about this if it were true. That would be a pretty big drop for a lot of teams.

It's going down according to this guy. So teams would have to shed salaries.
