If you like Risk AND Axis-&-Allies, then play DIPLOMACY! Awesome game.
Other favourites include: Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, Risk, Settlers of Catan, Stock Ticker, The A-Maze-ing Labrynth.
How about the worst game ever? I vote for Yahtzee. I would rather watch paint dry.

No one likes Clue? I love that game. And Risk too, but it takes way too long to play a whole game. Monopoly is one of my favourites too.

Classic Risk - awesome game, I always go for South American and Africa first, trying to get North America is foolish as no one will ever let you keep it
LOTR Trilogy Risk - wow! so many territories it gets crazy! The strongholds and leaders are nice additions if you play with them
Monopoly - trying to make deals to get your properties is the best part, everyone is always trying to screw each other. I always try to go for the orange properties as this is where people land the most when they come out of jail in my experience

I loved Risk (still do), and that got me into Axis and Allies (I have the regular, pacific and d-day), which I also love, and that got me into Diplomacy, which is awesome - and a good way to get best friends really, really choked at each other ... that's a funnnnn game. It's great seeing people absolutely livid at their friends ...
Granted, those games aren't very good for a random, casual mixed group of people ... then I play Cranium, which is also a lot of fun. Sometimes Monopoly, but that tends to degenerate after about an hour ...

I wasn't really allowed to play board games when I was little cause I was a sore loser and an even worse winner. I just got too competitive, particularly playing against my brothers.
But... to answer your question, when I was younger, I really liked the board game "Sorry." I liked "Nightmare" too, that video board game.
Now, I will occasionally play Cranium. That one is not too bad.

I loved the part where the gatekeeper would ask you your name and reply "that's a stupid name!"

It has to be Scrabble. I'm an English graduate, so that undergrad degree has to go to use for something.
Trivial Pursuit (Pop Culture) is another good one.
Twister is fun (if that counts?).

What's Rod and Todd's favourite? Good Samaritan?
"I get to clothe the leper!"
"Lucky!"
Seriously, Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble and the movie trivia one.

Risk. anyone play CastleRisk? It's Risk with a boat.
A&A is probably my all time favorite... makes me want to look into Diplomacy.
I completely forgot about Stratego, played that all the time as a kid.
Love the classics too: Monopoly (Just not Saskatchewan rules.) Pictionary, Scrabble....

Diplomacy is an absolutely fantastic game, and email Diplomacy is probably the only thing that I spend more time on than these forums. I've got five games going on right now. Favourite variant is Imperial, but it's hard to find 13 committed players. Unfotunately Diplomacy is apparently not going to be printed anymore.
Risk Godswar and Risk 2010 are excellent as well. I own over 60 board games and my favourites other than the three above would be:
Through the Desert
Dragon Delta
Carcassonne
Axis & Allies
Settlers of Catan - Cities and Knights Expansion
Manhattan
Cosmic Wars
Ramole (sp?)
and others. There's just too many good ones to mention.
BTW, if you're looking for a great place to find a good board game other than the classics that you can find anywhere, head over to the Century Box on the west side of downtown. Those in Edmonton can check out Mission Fun and Games in St. Albert. Those are the only two places that I know of that have a decent selection.
