In terms of hardware, if you are looking for freedom to use the 3g networks on both the big 3 (Bell/Rogers/Telus) and Wind and Mobilicity, you have a few Android options along with Symbian options. Both the Galaxy S2 X and HTC Amaze 4g from Telus can take advantage of either 3g frequency. The newer Nokia Symbian phones are usually pentaband 3g (meaning they cover all 5 frequency's) although they are not as nice as the android phones. You can unlock the Galaxy S2 X for free by rooting it, and it usually costs $10-20 to unlock the HTC.
