League1 Alberta announced their clubs for the 2024 season. Calgary SW United and Calgary Blizzard are added on the men's side. Calgary SW United and NDC Alberta are added on the women's side.
As an aside...if anyone is interested in sponsoring Foothills League One, let me know and I can send the package. Anywhere from $5,000-100,000 investments. $100k/year gets you naming rights for what's currently The Macron Centre.
When do the CPL league fixtures get released? Been thinking about taking in an away game this season but depends on if cheap flights can be found.
I recently downloaded the Futbology app and realising I need to increase my match going (currently in fourth place for the Cavs but I've only got two seasons under my belt so most of you lads would have that beat) I may check out some of those League 1 games if I can.

Callies are actually partnering with SW United on their League1 team. Sounds like it will go by a new name too.
Came here to post the same. Looks like Callies will be operating the League One team, using SWU as a feeder.
The writing was on the wall for the AMSL, so Callies needed to adapt. I think the AMSL will be gone within a couple years. Kinda sad, but really...League One is the new AMSL.

Is that the same Callies I would have dragged my useless ass around the field against in CUSA division 5?
Are they just a bunch of men's teams and that's it right now?
I didn't know Callies had a team in division 5...but yes, likely the same one. They have multiple teams. Currently I know they're in futsal, 7v7 for indoor. Then a few teams in outdoor CUSA. Plus a Masters team.

I read an article that said AMSL would be called League 2 and promotion / relegation would happen.

You've got a commanding lead on the guy in fifth and are as close the guy in third as you can be. Even a solid attendance streak for just CPL matches next season might be enough for you to claim third. Good luck!

The long term vision for League1 Alberta is to mimic what League1 Ontario is moving to as of 2024. League1 Ontario split into League1 Ontario Premiership and League1 Ontario Championship this year and has League2 Ontario for new clubs and reserve clubs. Confusing league naming conventions aside, it's the first real attempt at promotion / relegation in this country, and the only reason it works because these are all amateur clubs who can easily move between divisions without any significant change in investment required.
We are a long way off from something similar in Alberta but even launching League1 Alberta is a good start.
As an aside the person who wrote that Northern Tribune article has gotten some reporting wrong on League1 Alberta. But no one else is really covering the league, and Northern Tribune is as good of a supporter-lead site as we have in this country, so I don't think you're going to get any other source of information.

Given the amount of US and Mexican teams, there presumably isn't a rule where teams can't be drawn against other teams from the same country? So we could potentially just get drawn against Forge or the Whitecaps, right?

For Karifa Yao fans, I just want to draw attention that his Twitter cover photo is a group hug of Cavalry on the field. That probably doesn't mean much, but I'm going to take it as good karma for his return!
