Losing is different than choking. When was the last time they actually choked in the playoffs? Maybe 2021, being up 3-1 in the series over Montreal, but that was the 56 game regular season in the all Canadian division because of Covid. 2012-13 is probably the right answer as they were up 4-1 in game 7 against Boston with about 10 minutes left, and gave up 2 goals in the last 80 seconds of the 3rd. But to say they always choke, is not close to being accurate.
Since the 2016-17 season they lost in the first round as the wild card 2 team and twice as the Atlantic 3 seed to the Atlantic 2 seed. None of those are chokes. They won a round in 2021 and 2023 and then lost to teams that went to the finals. 2022 was a 2 seed to a three seed. Again, none are chokes.
-06 -> 2011-12 - Missed playoffs
-13 - 5 seed that lost to the 4 seed in 7 games
-14 -> 2015-16 - Missed playoffs
-17 - 8 seed lost to 1 seed
-18 - Atlantic 3 seed lost to Atlantic 2 seed
-19 - Atlantic 3 seed lost to Atlantic 2 seed
-20 - Missed playoffs in COVID season
-21 - Won playoff round as Eastern 2 seed over Eastern 3
-22 - Atlantic 2 seed lost to Atlantic 3 seed
-23 - Beat Tampa and lost to Florida
