That is such a vapid argument. We'd better look at banning the Canadian and American dollar as well if this is really your position, because guess what? Both are used for the exact same nefarious purposes.

But all legal tender has ways to track it, bitcoin doesn't. The fact that it has value is what is driving the ransomware outbreaks untraceable currency that can be demanded without fear.
But child porn and other issues were here long before bitcoins its definitely not related. As you said the currency isn't the issue.

No, Bitcoin is not "driving" ransomware and the like. That also existed decades before cryptocurrencies. It makes it easier for the crooks, I agree, but there is no cause and effect here.

Cryptocurrency may not be driving sickening things like child porn but it facilitates the sale and distribution and makes it hard to track down the abusers and producers.

Digital cameras too, be a lot easier to track these guys if they couldn't make digital images or videos.

Making something easier usually affects how many people do it.

If we are going down that road you might as well ban the internet all together
its 90% scams, porn, cyber bullying, hate speech ect.

I think you are quoting the wrong person, I support the currency.

I know many people that got in early...#### those guys lol
If you are patient you will make money...BTC has a limited supply, eventually the price is gonna go up. Certainly better odds than the casino...don't pull out on the dips, that is what they want you to do. BTC is heavily manipulated

I thought the same thing, but I chose Ethereum to invest in rather than BTC. I decided it had greater potential.

Would this need to be reported to the CRA? Hypothetically, if someone made $50K on bitcoin and converted it back.
- Should it be reported?
- Would you report it?
.... hypothetically

I have a buddy who called the CRA about that exact question and the answer is yes. It would inevitably be a self-report thing though as I doubt the CRA has any way to actually track.

I am wondering if I can somehow label my Ethereum investment as a TFSA investment and have it be tax-free.

Get a Treznor and tell the CRA to EAD
Obviously you will have to report when you convert to fiat and have it wired to your bank account...I am in BTC for the long term though
