I also love getting exposed to great comics I either never heard of or never would have thought to listen to. Marc Maron and Chad Daniels are the former, while Jim Gaffigan belongs to the latter.

The old-school Steve Martin bits are crazy good. His stand up was before my time, but I can see how avant guard he would have been.

I enjoy the station too, but I hope it sticks around. If I recall correctly they were dead last in the ratings the last go around.

Classic Country 1060 wasn't doing great anyways.
The normal ratings for a station like this aren't very relevant. I suspect it is being sold to advertisers on the basis of a more narrow target audience and cumulative listenership - not unlike 660News - where the key is not what share of the audience you have at any one moment, but rather how many people tune in for any length of time during the day - and how often they come back.

Essentially they want to be the station of choice that people go to when their #1 station is on commercial break - which is why even their advertising talks about them being "Calgary's #2 favourite station" or something like that.

Agreed. Not my first choice, but when Fan960 starts talking about car racing or Jim Rome is on (or the annoying Toronto guys after 6:00pm), I switch to this.

They should do the Top 10 at 10 and Top 6 at 6.

Maybe they can't do it for licensing or cost or something, but it would be great - maybe late at night for e.g. - if they could do a full routine/show of somebody's.

It's just a feed from the states that they plug ads and announcers in.

24/7 comedy.

Do they have a Cancon quota like music stations?

I don't believe so because it is talk radio.

From wikipedia:

Quote:
Unlike music radio, the rules on talk radio are more ambiguous.. The lone restriction is that the station must have a working studio within the region it broadcasts, which prohibits the use of entirely satellite-operated stations (which are commonplace in the United States).
Quote:
A notable exception to the majority-Canadian spoken word programming came in 2012 when Astral Media introduced CKSL and CHAM, two stations in southern Ontario, as full-time affiliates of 24/7 Comedy Radio, a service of the U.S.-based Cumulus Media Networks. CHAM meets its studio requirement by maintaining a locally based interstitial host.

If you started listening midway and liked the comedian, then how would you know who it was?

Should be at the beginning and end, imo. Seems like overkill, but I often find myself a little distracted as I've heard so many comedians I keep trying to pinpoint who it is the whole time, instead of just enjoying the set.

I think it would be cool if they set aside some time in the evening or on weekends to play an entire album. Especially for some of the classic comedy albums out there.

I've grown to accept the name of the comedian at the end. It forces me to listen to the whole bit.

I really wish they were consistent with it though. The local guys cut to commercial sometimes and skip the name. That's annoying.

It seems like they have improved this - when they started this was happening all the time - but they seem to be timing things better now to make sure the name is stated before rolling the local spots.

On a related note: how many other people have tried to Shazam AM1060 to get the name of the comedian?

I have. It often works too!
