That clause about the second window seems to be talking about the player being taken to arbitration by the team making more than $1.75M (adj), not the player potentially being bought out?

After reading the CBA carefully, would appear you are right.

The team and player can negotiate any contract allowed under the CBA up until the arbitrator hands down his ruling, even if the arbitration hearing has already taken place (as happened last year with Bouma).
If they don't come to a negotiated agreement, the length is predetermined before the hearing and the arbitrator is just assigning a dollar value.

First team elected arbitration
Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive
#RedWings have filed for salary arbitration with Petr Mrazek. Sides will continue negotiations in hopes of getting deal before hearing.
Red Wings also settled with Jared Coreau last night.

I'm assuming we would have heard by now if the Flames had filed on F. Hamitlon. Sorry, The Original FFIV. No more conspiracy theories for you.

I'm interested to see the result of the the Marcus Johannson arbitration hearing on the 20th of July.
The Capitals only have about $8.0M in cap space and they also need to re-sign Dmitry Orlov (who did not file for arbitration). If Johannson's arbitrated salary eats up too much of that $8.0M, it will be interesting to see which of the two RFA's they opt to keep.
If he is jettisoned by the Capitals, Orlov could be a viable candidate for the additional D-man that Treliving is reportedly looking to add.

I'm usually the one defending the inflated salary of contracts, but no where is Marcus Johansson worth anywhere close to 5M. Even as an arbitration asking amount that's ridiculous.
Can't the Caps just bring up his 3.75M contract last year as a comparable? Give a little bit for inflation and call it a day.

5+ mil for Marcus Johanssen. ROFL in no way shape or form is he worth that much. Him getting paid that ridiculous amount sets the bar way to high for future players like him who need to get signed. Hopefully that never happens.

No doubt he's using Frans Nielsen as a contract comparable. He should be closer to Mikael Backlund money though.

He can't use Frans Nielsen as a comparable. Contracts for UFAs can't be used in arbitration.

Michael Russo @Russostrib
#mnwild has placed Jordan Schroeder on regular non-buyout waivers. He filed for arbitration July 5
Blues did a similar move with Kris Russell before signing and trading him to the Flames.

First of all, from other posts I'm sure everyone could tell I really want to get Nichushkin. Big fast skating RW that's still young.
Secondly I wasn't sure if this was worth creating a new thread over.
Finally, I'm wondering if anyone heard why isn't part of filing for arbitration? Dallas must think they could sign him. I've also read he might go to the KHL.
What would his worth be on a new contract? If the Flames offer sheet him $3.75 mill, we would potentially lose a second rounder if Dallas didn't match which in my opinion would be worth it. Not sure what Dallas is planning but some how some way it would be great to get this kid.

How do the Flames fit in $3.75 million and stay under the cap? Plus do you think it's a smart idea to piss off teams by offer sheeting players when the team has and will have high profile guys that can be offered sheeted?
