Connor McDavid will not require any off season surgery and will be ready for the start of training camp.

Edmonton has had zero Calder winners despite having countless top picks. The Calgary Flames have never picked top 3 yet have 5 Calder Winners and many other finalists.

Still waiting for the hospital ward list of oiler injuries.
Holland out…that’s the end of his contract so maybe he retires, maybe not. This isn’t sudden though…this date has been literally known since the day he signed it. Are the Oilers so thick that they don’t have a backup plan?
Maybe they should get mcdavid’s agent in as manager…wait…he’s already president of hockey ops. Ok…ok…how about his junior coach…what…he’s already the coach? Okay…what about McDavid? He’s already designed and won all star contests.
Sather? Lowe? Gretzky? Messier?
In all seriousness, the next GM has a career make or break 2 years ahead of them. No draft picks, 2 star players to be signed or traded, an increasing salary cap with less money to spend should the stars both get signed. An aging roster with salary commitments.
The biggie is the expectations from fans and media which can lead to popular but incorrect decisions for the team.
I don’t see McDavid leaving actually…he has so much control over hockey operations. And I think that’s the biggest reason why Draisatl will get overpaid and won’t leave. Draisatl is literally going to have to break up with McDavid if he wants to leave…and his buddy will over pay to not get dumped.
Can you imagine the constant speculation and pressure if Draisatl hasn’t signed by September? “Have you signed yet” will be worse from Edmonton and elsewhere media than “are we there yet” from children.
Delicious!

I just remembered, McDavid is now the same age Gretzky was when he went to L.A.

Their best shot at a cup is to go to a bubble team as a UFA. Who's got a solid defensive core and a good goalie?
Does McDavid turn the Islanders into the cup favorite? Maybe Detroit? I think if he wants a cup he'll have to move on without costing his new team everything they have. Edmonton has already spent their future. They're on the downhill and will drop off a cliff after next year.
I'm less sold on Draisaitl moving the needle in playoffs for the salary he'll command but maybe he turns a Senator/Islander/Nashville franchise into serious contenders

That really is so crazy. I just assumed McDavid had won it and had no idea until now that he didn’t!

It's not a serious swap suggestion; the poster was joking.
I thought that was obvious.
But having a player like Draisaitl in this Flames lineup would be stupid.
Anyway, back to E=NG.

"Gretzky had to lose on to learn what it takes"
Wayne had 4 at Connor's age

yes and thus started mcdavid's managerial career by having Brandon Manning acquired and then buried in the minors and then sent to Europe.
That'll learn him to respect the Connor right of way.
