Not earth shattering, but from Steinberg:
Steinberg's tapped into the team so this is almost guaranteed to be truth, but I still believe Kadri doesn't want to play in Calgary. He's said it once when that trade was proposed and then again this year during free agency.

Everyone ranks players differently. It is the same in soccer - who is the best of all time? Pele? Maradona? Eusebio? Garrincha? CR7? Messi? Di Stefano? I think it is a bit more nuanced in football because of how many different leagues there were in addition to eras.

For me, it all comes down to how good were you against your peers during your career? Orr is amazing and weirdly still underappreciated by many, but he was head and shoulders above his peers. Iginla basically had 25% more goals in 2001 than anyone else in 2001. If you watched him play, he was probably the most complete and 'perfect' player in the game (somewhat like Ronaldo from Brazil was in a way). Iginla scored goals, he was underrated as a playmaker, he would fight, he would play physical, he was great defensively, he was amazing along the boards or in the middle of the ice, and he was a true leader out there. He was an incredibly perfect player and was the best player in the world that year (and for a couple of other years I would argue). You won't get that from stats alone of course - you had to watch him, but stats do help in figuring out how a player compared to his peers.

I think Crosby is a generational player, but I roll my eyes when I see people saying: "He would be better than Gretzky if he went to that era". Sure, if he got to bring all the leaps forward in terms of equipment and science (training, nutrition, recover, etc.). There is not telling how far that stuff gets you. I think you always have to rank players in any sport as they were compared to their peers, and then you also have had to really watch them.

Iginla was an amazing player for a many seasons, and if he played in a bigger market, he wouldn't ever be overlooked on anyone's list. Maybe if he had better players to play with, he would have been able to do even more. I will not be convinced that every player who has hit 100 or more points in a season is instantly better than Iginla.

This, I've always wondered if we didn't have that stupid, stupid Greg Gilbert as coach, and have kept Marc Savard to play with Iginla. Iggy would set a lot of NHL records. They had chemistry at the time and Savard would have been the #1 center Iggy needed.

When did he say it this year? Pretty sure he said he used his no trade because he didn't want to get traded anywhere.

Milano should be a target ad signed regardless of Kadri. Maybe Milano and Stastny as a consolation prize for not getting Kadri? Stastny's age scares me, but there isn't a heckuva lot out there the fortify the ranks up front.

Savard, St. Louis on the left side. Conroy as a 2nd line centre. Suddenly that team starts looking like a dominant team.

But he didn’t do even close to what Jarome did for his team. Silly to compare.
Umm I love Iggy but you are vastly under rating Joe Thornton.

Yes! But to be fair, St. Louis didn't show his scoring ability at the time. Or Brian Sutter didn't allow him to show his scoring ability, always played him in the 4th line.

Imagine if everything fell into place, we could've won a cup may be 2. Sigh, but with those coaches, I'm not sure.

With the term that Kadri wants and the fact he will be 32 soon makes me wonder why the hell anyone wants this guy to sign with us.

We will regret it in short order.

Flames are trying to win a cup and the next 2-3 years will be their best chance and those chances increase by adding Kadri and solidifying the center depth.

After the next 2-3 years they will probably have to tear this sucker down so who cares if we have an overpaid Kadri at that point?

This article suggests that Paul Stastny and the Flames might have mutual interest. It also contains some information about Stastny being an effective player.

I feel like this is probably old news, but I decided to include it because I hadn’t seen it before.

Just to add to this:

Free Agency has been open for over two weeks now and he he still hasn’t signed. I’m assuming the Flames have given him a few offers to mull over. Since he hasn’t signed I doubt any of them are completely outrageous

Also had the Flames being a possible Rodrigues destination. Him and Stastny significantly change the look of the bottom 6 forwards. If Lucic retires/gets traded the Flames could probably pull it off. Forwards would look something like this with those 2 players

Hubredeau Lindholm Rodrigues
Mangiapane Backlund Coleman
Dube Stastny Toffoli
Lewis Ruzicka Monahan
Rooney

Stasney would be great on Ruzickas wing.

Also think Milano might be worth a shot depending on contract

Good catch by Scorp, Rask seems like the exact type of bottom six Flames would sign.

Would absolutely love Stasny and Rodrigues on 1 year deals to fill out the roster, might be able to get them to do 1 years too considering how far into the summer we are.

Rask isn't a very good skater.

In fact, he's pretty 'meh' at everything as far as NHLers go.

Also in the picture is Nordstrom. He coming back?

Pass. On both of them.

Sutter would hate Rask. Lazy.

Rask played with Brody Sutter in the minors and with the Canes (so did Elias).

Wow Rask could be a sneaky pickup, 51 % career faceoff guy on damn near 4000 draws taken; there are some really good options for 2nd and 3rd line players and it has me damn excited I tell ya! Nice catch Scorp!
