It appears the grass looks better on the PS4 but otherwise they look identical with some differences in lighting with both running at 1080p and 30 fps. Not really much to see here.

I always wonder with these screenshots...a game can look drastically different based on something as simple as the settings on your tv (or the settings in the reviewers photoshop
I would probably go PS4 having both but really its likely pretty even...and a major upgrade

They may have reduced the amount of grass in the XB1 version to keep the framerate smooth compared to the PS4 that could run the extra detail without any negative effects. Still though we are talking about grass here in a GTA game. Different programming teams and it's actually quite amazing that they can make games look so similar on different hardware platforms.
Now that the fall games are coming out fast and furious and I am playing games on both consoles there's never a time that I feel I'm stepping down when playing on XB1 as the games all look good. Pretty happy with both consoles and the only real gripe I have is that the Dualshock 4 batteries suck (yes I have turned down the light bar settings but I like the speaker on). My controllers are from last year does anyone know if newer controllers hold a charge better now?

My launch controller started having issues with buttons sticking, so I got it replaced with my extended warranty. The new controller has a few improvements (feels heavier, thicker rubber over the thumbsticks), but the battery is still terrible.

How long is the warranty on that? My left bumper is sticking pretty regularly now, but it's been a year.

I paid for the extended warranty, it was like $59 for a year or something like that.

Probably right. I'm guessing they scaled back some dynamic things like number of vehicles and pedestrians in urban areas for the same reasons. Obviously much hard to compare dynamic objects than static ones though.
Given the option though, the PS4 remains the likely way to go for console multi-platforms these days. For this game, you'll get the extra detail, more stable frame rate and lighting effects for the same price.
But if you don't have both systems though and happen to just have an Xbone, it's not the end of the world to get GTA on that console by any stretch.
Digital Foundry has an update on GTA V.

However, screenshot comparisons appearing on the internet yesterday suggested that the game's biggest enhancement - a radical revamp of the great outdoors - was missing significant amounts of detail on Xbox One.
However, the more locations we visited, the more it became clear that PlayStation 4 does possess the advantage in terms of detail level - it's just that the extent of the boost varies on a per-location level.
Overall, this is the kind of effect where the PS4's larger GPU and higher fill-rate come to the fore, and while it shouldn't impact any purchasing decision (Xbox One is hardly barren and featureless in the affected locations), it's nice to see that Rockstar has utilised the additional graphics power on tap in the Sony console.

I still prefer the XB1 controller so I'll probably get GTA V for XB1 as I don't think I'm going to miss a little bit of grass as the bolded in your post says stuff like that shouldn't impact a purchasing decision. I have both consoles but two of my siblings have only XB1 and I have seen several fall titles on my PS4 and their XB1's and games like COD and Alien you would have to have them running side by side on 60+ inch screens to even notice any difference as they look pretty well the same to me. The best advice is to get the game for the console to which you prefer the controller the most for that type of game much like last gen when most multi-platform games looked marginally better on the 360.
If reviews say one version looks and runs noticeably better then I'll get that version but it's been a while since we have heard of major discrepancies between versions.

HA ha. You have to admit that 60"+ TV's these days aren't really that pricey. I still remember paying $2500 for a 32" Samsung 720p TV. We still actually have it in a bedroom but you can see that LCD's have come a long way in the last 10 years when you see the contrast and motion blur on it.

Playing through Halo MCC has been quite the experience so far. The remastering of the first game is fairly impressive (as it was a few years ago) but the revitalized Halo 2 takes it to the next level. Every nook and cranny has been reimagined for newer hardware, and unlike with Halo 1 Anniversary, even the audio (in addition to the visuals) can be reverted back to that of the original with one press of a button. Doing so really demonstrates the upgrades to the textures, environments, weapon sounds, and particularly the music.
Great stuff.

Might be talking about the PS coverage on the PS4 that covers the accessories.

It was warranty on the whole PS4, not just a controller.

Yeah I got it too as I had a few issues with my PS4 displaying a low rez pixelated output (not using a Bravia TV) every so often and after having their service guys go over resetting some of the settings I figured I would pay the $59 (two additional years) in case my launch unit may crap out. I haven't had any issues for a long time so I assume it may have been a firmware bug that has been corrected.

Interesting "1 Year Later" reviews; nothing really earth shattering, but at least a sense of balance and reflection and certainly more evenness between the platforms than you would think when reading this thread.
PS4: http://kotaku.com/ps4-review-update-...ter-1660587197
Xbox One: http://kotaku.com/xbox-one-review-up...ter-1660790290
I still think that M$ should give other countries the same extra $50 off that the US is getting though if they really want to move consoles.
