Good for you! First winter out and you get a tough one. Mine was a cake walk last year.

I did 20km on the trainer this morning. It was too hot. I should have turned on the fan.

Just wanted to drop by to say two things.
1) Anyone biking in this weather has my deep, profound respect. You are truly an inspiration. I hope one day to be as tough as you are.
2) You dorks are all mentally handicapped.

Your tires will be down about 20% in pressure compared to a hot day. Plus restrictive clothing, plus more friction in moving bike parts, plus more friction due to snow and ice bumps.
Everything becomes a slog.

It was minus 6 in Vancouver today, so riding is definitely out. There is cause for concern when it gets to plus 6. I assume the national guard will be coming in soon to save us all and bring us food rations.

I never quite understood why people think winter riding is "insane". I've never heard anyone say - hey look at that person walking to work, how insane! That person walking to and waiting outside at the bus stop, how insane! Are people afraid of the outdoors? Do they not have winter clothes?

I know this is not the same as sending your a truck load of dyson heaters and 700 loft good down blankets, but please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers

Those boots....jealous! The south wind coming into downtown on the cycle track was a bit chilly!

Honestly - for the number of -25 mornings we have - just go to Costco and buy a box of the hand warmers and drop them in your boots. Keeps your mobility and provides the most amount of warmth. For me anyways, I've found it way more effective to add heat, rather than retain heat.
I do this, into a pair of Blundstone style boots with a thermal insole with normal sport socks.

My co-worker just reminded me why riding is better....Last night he waited 30 minutes for the bus, and when he got on 2 stinking drunks sat next to him drinking beers, and didn't even offer him one!

You are out early! I'm thinking of downgrading a layer for this tropical weather.

I kept to all the layers I was wearing last week, I think by the afternoon the long johns will come off and perhaps the undershirt too if it gets to -11 or so. Downright balmy!
