Probably wasn't going to cost a first rounder, if a trade for a
decent young goalie was made during pre-season. Every GM now knows how bad our goalie situation is, and the price just went up.
At least, that's what GM movies like Draft Day makes me believe.
Conversation with GMBT and the Hawks GM.
Here is how the scene would go-
It was a chinook-y day in YYC -
At the'Dome offices GMBT, sleeves rolled up, trying to be calm in a conference call with Bowman, is in the middle of trade deal discussions about a goalie.
GMBT on the speaker phone with Conroy pacing the room... Gelinas is sitting at the board room table, exhausted from the negotiates :.
GMBT :Cmon, Bowman, you offered up Crawford for Stone back in August, straight up!"
Bowman:" well, we like Crow (Crawford) allot here, he won a cup here you know? Fans love him, and I don't want to be the guy that trades the town hero."
GMBT:" well, we don't like your counter proposal of - Brodie for Crawford...I'll be the laughing stock of yyc"
Bowman:" all the fans and media are calling for your head... Look outside your office!"
A defeated GMBT sighs out loud : " You got a deal...."
Bowman: "Whoa, Whoa, not so fast, that deal is off the table."
GMBT " Dammit Bowman!"
Bowman :" new deal BT, and I'm only offering this once. Brodie+Neal+1st Rounder +Rittichfor Crawford+Seabrook+Conditional 2nd+5th round+1st rounder
A deflated GMBT begrudgingly utters "Deal"
Chicago's future:
Neal goes on to develop chemistry with Towes and pots 30 and goes on a deep playoff run, with Keith and Brodie end up be an excellent pairing, and Rittich of course becomes the breakout star we have been dying for him to become. CHI resumes playoff contender status.
Flames future:
Seabrook sucks. Crawford declines and then sucks. We don't make the playoffs. And CHI has our first round pick which ends to being a top 3 pick. The first round draft pick we get from CHI will be for the 29th overall pick in the upcoming draft
Bitter..we lost 9-1 tonight.
Greases beat the champs tonight.
Nucks are leading pacific division with their superstar rookie injured.
