Hmm, watch it at home with top shelf liquor, with my dog, able to pause whenever I want to pee or get a new drink.
Or
Watch it in a theatre, drinking sprite zero or some crap, sitting next to some fat prick who hasn't showered in 4 days who also talks and texts through the whole movie.
I'll take the streaming please!

I just remember the last time I went to a theatre I got to watch some disgusting blob take his greasy hat off, pour popcorn into it, eat out of it, and put it back on it's head. Ya, no. I'm out.

what theatres do you people go to? I have never, ever had these nightmare experiences people pretend exist.
I’ll gladly take a 50 foot screen, massive sound, a recliner 10x out of 10. It is better than your home heater setup by a magnitude than makes them not even worth comparing.
And with HBO max being the only release method, you’ll be waiting for high quality pirates.

I was at the new market mall theatre. Honestly I find my recliner more comfortable than theirs. And I don't even think it's "orders of magnitude" better. I've got a 96" screen and a decent sound system, with the benefit of being able to turn the volume up or down as needed.
I didn't even mean getting pirated copies, I have patience with movies, I can wait. Eventually it will be on Crave or something.

My favourite are the asshats who need to check their phone every 2 minutes in a dark theatre.

I do prefer my Theatre room to the actual theatre, but the wife likes going for a "date night" every now and then.
Haven't had a bad experience in years at the theatre though. And now we only go to the Market Mall one.

Count me in the “theatres can die” camp. They’d be great if they weren’t filled with other people. Bunch of savages in this town.

Count me in on the I'd rather stay home faction. I just don't like being in crowds, plus getting past middle age, I hate having to take a washroom break and missing a chunk of the movie.
I'm willing to wait on first run movies, however the tear point is that I refuse to pay the super high streaming prices on newly released movie, $30.00 for WW84, get bent.
I don't doubt that eventually Cineplex will probably create its own streaming service for home viewers.

Well you're in luck. Cineplex store is a thing.

I use Google Play, the play list is huge.

If there's other people there, I'm not interested. End of story.

The renovated Landmark theatre at Shawnessy is really nice. A lot different than your regular theatre.
I like the movie theatre experience. There's something about being able to pause a movie at home that encourages me to do it. Rarely will I sit through a movie in one sitting from start to finish, and I kind of end up not fully enjoying it because of it.
Especially for big releases, a lot of the time the anticipation at the theatre is half the fun.

I enjoy going to watch movies, but I don't do it often anymore. My attendance had picked up somewhat as my kids liked to go and watch MCU and Star Wars before their friends spoiled the movies for them (kids are savages!).
However, I can totally get the not wanting to watch movies in a theatre thing. With not having been to a theatre in over a year now I think I would be quite content if I never went again... although the last movie I did see was Joker in a 2nd run theatre, so I'll at least go see something a lot more happy in a better quality theatre so my memories of the last movie I saw in theatre can be a happy memory.

Caveat to my theatres can die thing: they are good for midnight movie style shared experiences. Rocky horror, cult classics where it’s quoting and yelling and shenanigans, that’s ok.

I've only had a few theatre ruining experiences.
Shutter Island. Some nasty dude sat down only a few seats away from the GF and I, even though the theatre was mostly empty. Scarfed on his popcorn and soda so hard we could hear hom swallowing and burping and grunting and moaning with every handful. It seemed even his group of friends told him to find a new seat. We moved to a different part of the theatre about 15 minutes in. As we were walking past him he creepily leaned into GF saying "Leaving so soon?!". He was just a nasty dude.
Another was Thor 1. A couple of teenage girls behind us would NOT shut up. It took until the very climax of the movie (a super loud Tornado/Lightning/Bifrost battle) where I could STILL hear them over the movie I turned around and asked if they "wanted to shut the f*** up?". Got a cheer from everyone else. That was nice.
Otherwise it's been mostly good and I miss the big event movies at the theatres.

Does that still happen? I remember going to RHPS for the first time (Eau Claire maybe?) and having a blast.

One time this kid talked thru the first 20 mins of an X-Men movie. I wanna say apocalypse. That’s the only bad theatre experience I can recall in the last 10 years or so.
But that movie sucked so whatever.
