Groshans feels like a lot to pay for two relievers that I'm not sure are premier relievers.

Well there's your bullpen arms. Groshans seems like a high price to pay but I guess they really didn't like his power outage at AAA this year.
Bass is having a really good year.

Bass has some ridiculous numbers this year. 1.41 ERA with a sub 1 WHIP.

Bullpen depth! Sorely needed. Great additions, Bass is having a great year and Pop seems Ok. Bass can be a high leverage guy and Pop is depth, which raises our floor. He’s done a nice job limiting his walks in his year.
Groshans was sort of a lost/buried prospect. High price but a necessary move.

Their pitching has been their achilles heel this year, they need more arms, and another bat for good measure.
Best record during the regular season doesn't guarantee anything in the post season. Braves were an 88 win team during the regular season with a WS ring when it was all said and done.
Just go for it!

Agreed for sure, Jays window is open and they have to take advantage of it.
Bull pen had to be improved, I would have wanted another outfielder in case Springer elbow is going to place him on the IR

Bass with a 3M club option for next year and Pop controlled through 2026.
Not rentals which is great

Eno Sarris seems to think that Pop potentially has an elite slider...

This means we should see a lot less Trevor Richards…and that is a very good thing.

Looks like Pop was originally drafted by the Blue Jays but elected to go to college.

And never Thornton again?

I don’t mind dealing Groshan’s and again do trust managements eye for talent but even internally if they didn’t feel too high on him, they seem to give up a lot in these deadline deals. Personally I’m starting to feel Atkins isn’t the best negotiator. Last year when they gave up that much prospect capital for Berrios, I was pretty angry. Certainly it’s not that much but again, they’re not elite bullpen guys and would have hoped a solid project like Groshans would go to a team big on him who wouldn’t mind dealing equally. But it sounds like Miami did well.

Not sure why I still have some sort of misguided hope for Richards, but I do, even though deep down I know he's not very good. Thornton though...

Two pretty good bullpen arms. Pop is still pretty young with a few years of control. Averages over 96mph on his fastball.
Hate to see Groshans go, because I think he will hit for power eventually.

Reports from people like Olney and others today is that the Jays prospects just aren’t highly regarded. So for us Jays fans who value our prospects more things are going to feel light.

With the Berríos trade, the Jays clearly saw something in Austin Martin that they didn’t like…they might have been on to something. This year he has 1 HR in 63 games, is hitting .249, with an OPS of .670.
Prospects flame out regularly. Often their value peaks long before they hit the majors and sometimes it’s best to capitalize on the opportunity when you know they are likely at that peak.
Despite a not so spectacular season for Berríos (it’s been decent), it was still a win.

I mean this with respect, I think you overrate our prospects based on the fact you know their names.
Groshans has done nothing in the minors to show he is even close to a major leaguer.
He can't field particularly well, and has hit 15 hrs in 1000 AB's in the minors. His career slugging is .400
This year, he has 1 HR and a .296 slugging with a ground ball rate of almost 50%. These are comically horrible numbers.
I think the Jays are actually much better and smarter at identifying players they think have a unfixable flaw and dealing while they still have some hype. This is what the Yankees did well for years. Every year they would have a new hyped prospect to deal and they never turned into anything
Austin Martin is another good example. He's now in his 3rd year in the minors and still can't hit for power.
He's hitting .249 with a .313 Slugging and 92 wRC+, and isnt good at D
After this year I doubt he is even a top 100 prospect.
If you can't play D and can't hit for power there arent a lot of long term options. The Jays seem to be trading these type of players away before their value decreases

Precisely this. Would still make the Berrios trade all over again.
Have to go for it in this competitive window. Both guys coming back are club controlled. Helps us win now, which is fun

Btw, if you read last year’s Blue Jays thread, I 100% freaked out when I heard how much we gave up to get Berríos.
