Even though Novak has always been a bit of a head case that was bizarre, seemed a mental quit more than physical. Disappointed not to get Novak-Medvedev just to see the crowd booing both guys.

Evil Medvedev is basically my favourite thing about this tournament.

The environment when Medvedev plays Federer is going to be the most one sided match of all time in terms of crowd support. Could this be the year we get Nadal vs Federer at the US Open?
Well it's not just New York, the Aussie crowd mercilessly booed Nadal when he tried to pull fake injury tactics against Stan in that Aussie final (Stan seems to bring guys to their knees unlike anyone else which makes sense). I don't think any crowd likes it when a player is getting his ass kicked and can't simply take it and instead resorts to things like "injuries". Novak, even in the exact same "pain", would not have retired if it was one set all, or of course if he was up two sets. Booing Osaka is significantly worse because all she did was win. As I said last night, Novak's retirement seemed far more mental than physical. I'm not saying he wasn't hurting, but it's September in a season that starts in January and that doesn't have much of a break from the end of the season in November. Everyone is hurting.

I don't think they booed Nadal last year in the semis when he retired down 2 sets against Delpo, why is this any different? Also please Nadal was badly injured against Wawa in Australia Open final, could barely move with his back. All 3 deserve the same respect IMO, as much as I don't cheer for Djoker he certainly gets the least respect from crowds.
He could barely move with his back, yet as soon as the crowd call him out he won a set. Sounds like he was reeeeallly injured there. He tried to use tactics to mess with Stan and it nearly worked. Nadal and tactics are nothing new, he knows how to use them and uses them well. And you know why the New Yorkers booed Novak and not Nadal, Novak is respected by fans but pretty widely disliked.

Why would Nadal continue to "fake" an injury after taking a set? Nadal has played through more injuries than any other player. What injury did Federer have at the 2017 Australian Open finals where he called a trainer down 3-1 in the 5th?
Go look back and my post history and you'll see me criticizing Roger for using MTO tactics in that match. Difference is Nadal is notorious for it, Roger has done it a handful of times(and as I recall Roger did it at the start of the fifth set, not 3-1, so it didn't really help him). And Nadal was faking to throw Stan off because Stan was railroading him. Thankfully it didn't work, although I do kinda wish it did because I doubt Nadal would have been able to accept the trophy without being booed off the court. He ruined Stan's moment, it should have been a great triumph for him, instead it became about Nadal's "injury". Aussie fans are easily the most knowledgeable, they knew what was up.

Nadal was hitting 70 MPH serves an hr in, the match was still in question at that point. Nadal would never just give up on a match, look at the US Open last year, after getting blitzed by Thiem he came back to win. Nadal was 12-0 vs Wawrinka before that match, why would he tank it? He probably knew this was his best chance at a 2nd Aussie title he would never throw it away because Stan was playing well. He lost to Dogopolov in the 3rd round of the next tournament, no way a healthy Nadal loses to a player like that. Anyways I won't change your mind, so good luck to Federer, except in the finals.
Maybe someone posted this already, but it's point of the tournament and will be basically impossible to top...
