I'm assuming Bran was waiting for Jamie when he said an old friend. I also think he will be the one to get him out of trouble when the others want to put Jamie on trial.

Really liked the episode. Thought they really overdid it with the awkward meetings of leaders though. In diplomacy this is just how things happen. One minute your friends with X people, and the next their your worst enemy.
I really liked the way they set up potential conflict between John and Dany though. John will have pressure from this bannermen to retake the crown. Dany is unlikely to just want to hand it off after everything she's done to gain it, regardless of the fact John has proper title.

What stood out to me about the Jon/Dany potential conflict is that they’re raising the question, thru Sam, of whether Jon is a better leader. Not just focusing his lineage claim. I think they’re trying to avoid the tired cliche of her saying it’s a lie to steal the throne and not believing it right away. I like it. Makes you think about who really deserves the iron throne, if anyone does. I think Jon sees this. I half expect him to make a speech in favour of a parliamentary democracy. Even the white walkers get their own constituencies. Now that’d be a twist ending lol.

I'm not sure the dragons are on Team Dany if push comes to shove. Maybe I'm looking too much into that look the dragon was giving during the waterfall makeout. I didn't see it as protective but more recognition....

I kind of laughed because I thought the dragon looked like he was grinning. As if he was into it. And he knows about Jon. And he knows they don’t know. And he’s enjoying that. Oh yeah gimme that sweet Targaryen aunt/nephew lovin’.

After re-watching season 7, a lot of it was about placing doubt in Dany being the savior of Westeros. Her leadership was checked and re-checked over and over, and I think a tipping point may be her eradication of the Tarley's.
Tyrion's main job these days seems to be convincing everyone that she's not her father, although she's been shown to be just as ruthless.

Maybe some strange dragon form of oedipal complex?

As I’ve never seen the prequels, I don’t know what you’re talking about.
I was thinking of Aladdin.
Also I’d like to take a moment to give props to Ygritte. Jon’s first and only true love. I thought maybe we’d get a “you know nothing Jon Snow” from Bran.

recently rewatched Jon's S3 hijinks with the wildlings, and the chemistry with Ygritte is hotter than dragonfire. in contrast, I find Jon and Dany together to be about as hot as...an aunt and a nephew getting it on. maybe it's intentional so that nobody feels too bad when the fling has to quickly grind to a halt?
I know almost nobody at Winterfell has seen the walking dead so they're all behaving as if the Game of Thrones still matters, lords and commoners alike. but it's pissing me off that Snow Satan is basically at their doorstep and they're still arguing about titles and knee bending like we're back in season 1. at least Jon and Bran are clearly pretty sick of it.
speaking of Bran and spitting truth, there was zero reaction to the news that the enemy has acquired a flying weapon of mass destruction. I don't remember anyone saying "uh wow zombie dragon sounds bad, anything we need to do with our preparations??" but probably worst of all was Dany's non-reaction. I never thought she was upset enough last season at Viserion's loss, but the news now that he's on the other side should be bloody devastating...not only that one of her children is a baddie and may need to be killed a second time, but some guilt about her poorly researched rescue attempt (and Jon acting stupid) was the cause.

I figure Jaime is pretty safe because (my theory in spoilers):

Has Danny ever said she cares about getting revenge on Jaime? Or is she fine with her crazy dad getting waked? Fromm my memory there is no real mention of her desire for revenge in the past, so I can't see them using it as a plot point, or they would have mentioned it. Or my memory is junk.

Question for the masses - do you believe that Cersei has actually called for the murder of her brothers or do you believe that Qyburn is acting independently by telling Bronn to do it? I'm not sure - you'd think if she really wanted Jaime dead she could have ordered the Mountain to do it before he left. Similarly she had Tyrion at her mercy and let him leave (albeit that did serve a purpose in getting Dany/Jon to leave Kings Landing).

I get the vibe that she made the call. She's kind of gone down the path of no return where everyone is disposable and she's looking out for her and her baby only. The big question for me is if Bronn has it in him to assassinate two men that he's had somewhat positive relationships with.

Rose Leslie married lucky Kit. She appeared on SNL in a cameo when Kit recently hosted.

Thought that was a great first episode. I know people here like to claim nothing changed after the source material, but I honestly felt things got very fan servicey blurring the lines with fan fiction. This season set the tone that this is GOT, this is a show based on the books and I felt like they absolutely nailed it.
This isn't going to be a happy ending, it isn't going to be as simple as just defeat the big baddie and ride off into the sun set. If they can keep the tone they have set early on for the entire season I will be very happy.
I'm also glad that this entire final season doesn't appear to be based on just the conflict with the white walkers. Seems like that will be resolved sooner in the season than anticipated.
The white walkers and dragons and goblins and orcs and all that isn't what makes GOT a great fantasy series, the conflict of the houses, the established, hinted at and explored history of Westeros and most importantly the characters are what has made this a great series. Focus on that to finish it off.
