Sounds like good attributes for a second line centre to me

Probably wouldn’t be on the market if he had a good worth ethic. Big good skating right shot players aren’t traded unless they have serious warts. His underlying numbers seem to confirm that.

If it costs you a first? Why not just be patient and ya know, draft your own? Get a player 5 years younger, who you can develop yourself.

I think part of being patient is also the maximizing of the Flames own 1st round pick. I believe sequencing is an important part of team building. Adding Dylan Cozens now won’t turn this team into a contender, but it very likely contributes to a better overall position in the standings (or at least that’s part of the reasoning in why you’d do that sort of trade), and that could easily be the difference between drafting 8th rather than 4th, or 12th rather than 9th etc.

I think that matters. It decreases the odds of drafting the type of impact players I think we so desperately need.

Kuzmenko has zero value currently. Although a hot streak could change that.

Yeah, it sounds shocking and bold but Kuzmenko has..no value? What playoff team would be interested in a one note player who can't hit that note

Remember when posters were clamoring to extend this guy? Good heavens it would have been a disaster had the team given him a three or four year deal in the offseason. The guy just isn't up to the grind of the NHL season.

A hot streak near deadline and an injury in someone’s top 6 at the same time is about the only window we’d have for moving him.

I hadn't thought of that, but you're right. He can play C, they are both locked in for long contracts (both until 2030).
Sharongovich and a 2nd for Cozens? Sign me up.
