We will retool around our amazing players like Huberdeau, Andersson and Kuzmenko! What could go wrong, who needs a rebuild!

Has any team other than the Rangers a few years back ever used the world rebuild publicly?

If things broke their way they could have 4-6 picks in the top ten of the draft over 3 years. That would almost certainly set them up to be a pretty good team for an extended stretch. They also have a number of other players they could trade for other picks (some who may garner another first round pick or two). Not sure I can think of a single team that has as many marketable assets that they could trade to start a rebuild off right.

I think that’s awfully optimistic. Keep in mind this time last year a lot of people were thinking the Flsmes would have 2 or 3 first round picks in the ‘23 draft…..
The goalie market, trade wise, seems to be a bit bloated. Ulmark,Sarros, Gibson, Gustavson, are all names that are out there and there’s probably more. Of the teams that are interested in a goalie, NJ appears to be the only one that might move a top 10 pick. Perhaps LA or Toronto will dangle their first but that seems unlikely given what 1st round picks are moved for these days. Or, at least, the Flames likely have to add to Markstrom. Does a 2nd and Markstrom get you LA’s 1st, or Toronto’s?
Also, Flames history would suggest they won’t be in a rush to trade Andersson this offseason. I’d be surprised if there’s any credence to the discussion that the Flames would consider moving him outside of Andersson telling them he would like to be traded.
I think the Flames will/should move Markstrom’s at the draft but I sudpythd return will be more in line with what we saw in the Toffoli and Tanev deals. A player with some upside and a pick.

It does matter and you can still have fun with it.
I reject the polemic and propose a tri-lateral order on this message board.
1. Always happy
2. Love the Flames, hate the results
3. Always unhappy

Number 2 is just a way for people who are actually number 3 to make themselves feel better.

I always figured the curse from the ghosts of the Forum against the Flames for being the only team to beat the Habs on Forum ice to win the cup in '89 is why the Flames have had such a rough go since then!

Likely the same people who thought the Flames were going to have multiple 1st round picks in the ‘23 draft one year ago.

Hes a good goalie. Many nights this season he was the only guy who showed up despite the incompetence of this organization in dropping the ball on the trading him, etc.

Its possible IF Fitzgerald has his eyes set on Markstrom only to address the G issue looming over that entire franchise.
Seems like he simply wont part with Mercer, so Conny says #10 or no deal.

That would have been over one year ago and no one who has watched this organization for any length of time should not have legitimately expected the flames to sell at that point. That’s not how they choose to operate.
There was one poster, a regular poster who hilariously thought the Flames should have had seven ‘23 first round picks!?!

I think people thought the Flames would get a 1st in the Lindholm trade and a 1st in the Hanifin trade. The Flames got a 1st in the Lindholm trade and a 1st in the Hanifin trade. So folks were more or less correct.

No.
The point is people thought the Flames were going to cash in and stockpile first round picks in the deep 2023 draft.

Agreed, I can't see any chance the Flames will get a top 10 pick for Markstrom.
Look what the Hawks paid to move from pick 20 to pick 18 in this years draft.

Who did they have to sell last year? Lewis? Lucic? Stone? None of them are getting a first rounder in return.
Anyone with value had at least a year left on their contracts, and those types of players don't get moved at the deadline very often.

I would honestly add our Van pick to get the done. There seems to be a clear shelf around pick 14 and would be gravy to get in around 10.

Especially by the Flames. Only time they appear to make that that type of move is if a player asks out

The Flames should ultimately not be waiting until the last year of these contracts to make decisions.

I don't think we are getting a big return for Markstrom.
Maybe at the deadline if the Devils got 2 potential playoff runs out of him, I could see an overpayment. But Markstrom is an aging goalie who has 1 year left on his contract.
Add in that there will be some other goalies of the same caliber available who are much younger, and I just don't see it.
