That Bobrovsky contract really sucks - and you can't really get a ton of a relief from buying it out. At least Hornqvist comes off the books next year and big Yandle buyout money ends after this year as well. I don't even remember Scott Darling playing there but they somehow have his buyout on their cap for this year as well.

There are well over 100 references to Huberdeau in this thread if you’re confused about the “can’t carry the puck” and “skates worse than Tkachuk” comments about him in the other threads. Maybe Sam Bennett truly is the greatest hockey player of all time.

Well he is the only 3rd line player to ever be called a Legend.

In my eyes makes the most sense. They need someone who can play opposite Montour woth chemistry

Montour can play either side...not sure where he's more comfortable. Same question right now with Weegar.

Right, but this move has made that problem even worse. Good for Tre on holding so firm, but I think we'd all still be celebrating this deal even if it had Hornqvist (and another sweetener) instead of Weegar .
I wonder if the deal started down that road and ran into issues with Hornqvists 8 team NTC...Zito was so nfatuated with Tkachuk that he swapped in Weegar? Or I wonder if the Flames still have a handshake deal to take Hornqvist at 50% if FLA can find an intermediary. Obviously just armchair speculation, but it's interesting to wonder how they ended up at this deal.

Well we did manage to trade Sam Bennett, a 1st round pick, a 3rd round pick, a 7th round pick, a 6th round pick, Tyler Pitlick and a 5th round pick for Tyler Toffoli and Calle Jarnkrok. So he is part of a legendary trading lineage in that respect.

I'm sure Del Zotto will take one of those open spots.
He could be a sneaky good add for them.

Sam Bennett is a solid 2nd line centre who plays with an edge, stands up for his teammates, and is a hell of a playoff performer.
…or, he’s a 4th line winger because GLERN GURRULZAN
Really fun player to cheer for, I miss him.

Five picks after the first round and not a single NHL game to show. 2014 was just another example of how bad the Flames are drafting.
And yes, teams should be going after BPA by position from time to time. They routinely do it when it comes to goaltenders. It's a reason why when one goaltender goes you'll see a bunch of teams jump on that bandwagon. I've also seen multiple teams say they picked defensemen because of need, so yes, you can pick for need, especially when your system is completely void of that player type.
Come on, the thread title is obvious. "The Legend of Sam Bennett."

This post is where this guy pretty much renamed the thread
I thought at the time that this wouldn’t end well and looked forward to seeing it play out over time
Sadly the draft wasn’t as bad as the management of its key asset
Somebody competent figured out how to make it work ok

Bennett gonna Bennett. Took a totally unnecessary penalty which resulted in a Hurricanes goal, and was totally instrumental in both OT goals. He's an enigma wrapped in a mystery.
