It’s not untenable. But it’s annoying driving around looking for a parking spot and then lugging a bag of games three blocks. And since we have several options for where to play, we chose the options where you can park immediately at someone’s house.

I get the impression you don’t socialize face-to-face enough for this sort of thing to be an issue with you.

Breathe Outdoors (Campers Village) closing soon, too (though the email says it will be a multiple month wind down)

Picturing a big ass box of Battleship, snakes and ladders, some clue.

My buddy wanted to us to play Settlers of Catan one night. four hours of setting up and trying to explain the rules, I'm like "you've seen video games right?".

MEC circling the drain. Atmosphere closing multiple stores. Now Breathe.

Brutal time to be an outdoor retailer.

Ugh...nothing to do with Calgary, but my Sister-in-law and her husband LOVE board games! The more complicated the better!

WTF happened to board games? You need like an Engineering degree to play some of these and by the time you go through all of the rules I've already either tried killing myself or gotten so hammered that no explanation of the veritable cornucopia of rules is going to help.

I thought you are a Costco guy based on your avatar.

But thanks for the information. Another low cost supermarket in the downtown area for hobos to hangout...

Covid made them fat'n'sassy, but as it turns out most people actually don't like moving their body parts outside.

The Outdoors is over-rated. Leave the outdoors alone and it'll leave you alone!

Costco seems to carry a lot of Atmosphere stuff now / yesterday when I was there . Large display in the athletics section

If you get in Costco probably don’t need your own stores

I assumed it was in relation to solidarity for Kirkland as opposed to being a very enthusiastic and supportive retail shopper!

Board games seem to have gotten expensive too. Something like Catan is $75 and then you start adding on expansion packs like the option to play with 6 people for another $75. It doesn't take long to be invested well into the hundreds of dollars on a single game. The only good thing is that some of the popular games are almost "investment" level right now and it is easy to sell used games at little to no loss (but who knows when that market might crash.)

When we have occasional Board Game nights I actively try and be the first person to lose.

So I can leave.

I'd rather watch a movie or a hockey game.

We played one where you have to fight Zombies and theres all these different levels in the house or whatever? I dont even care enough to remember the name. And dont even get me started on 'Ticket to Ride.'

I stopped playing because our typical game nights became too much about the social and not enough about the game. It's not fun when you have to keep reminding people that it is their turn and they have no idea what is happening in the game.

The market space was never that big to begin with. 15 years ago there was just MEC.

I’m no business major, but it seems to me that selling clothing and equipment intended to last a long time isn’t a great growth market. I still have an MEC backpack I bought 30 years ago. It works great - that was the whole justification for spending the whack of cash I dropped on it back then.
