I actually closed my eyes when playing it first to avoid having any word in my head at all and heard *something* needle.

I was able to hear "Brainstorm" at first when reading that word, but I can't get it all anymore after listening more closely, even when reading the word while listening. The closest I can perceive now is "Brainy Dough".
In the first syllable /gr/ and /br/ are very similar, the /e/ and /i/ vowels are also very close together, and the /n/ is obviously the same, so it's is very understandable to be perceived either as "green" or as "brain". In the second syllable, the dark 'l' of needle and the /or/ of storm are reasonably similar, but the /st/ and the /m/ in storm are totally different. When I try to listen just for those sounds, I can't hear them at all. Makes me think perceiving those is just a product of reading the word and my brain filling in the gaps between what it expects and what's actually there.
