Maybe they could hire the zoo's 300 workers for some of the temporary work. (or whatever the number is)

Paul Dunphy just reported that too - he says around Memorial westbound around 3rd St, according to the information he was given. That is just patently unfair. Those poor people, getting slammed again.

@660NewsTraffic Both directions of Blackfoot Trail under the Ogden Bridge are closed because of flooding, crews have been pulling cars out.

Fire truck showed up at the south end of 5a here in sunnyside, looks like it's pumping out there maybe? Basement's still dry, but will keep an eye on it.
Edit: flooding in the alley between 1st and 2nd ave, between 5a and 6. Looks like a couple feet deep further down. Guys at the condo across the street say the level has been dropping in the last 5 minutes or so.

You're half a block from me. This was insane, but when they got that storm drain opened it sure cleared out fast. This is basically a repeat of 2009.

So they accidentally had the storm drains closed again?

I don't know the details, just what I heard second hand, that the fire department came and opened the storm drains. So if that's the case ... then yes. I assume they wanted to leave them closed during the flood as long as possible, but considering the river level, they could have been opened by last weekend.

He's quoted in the Herald story. His house, luckily, is ok.

good to hear.
lol, this is the other end of my block. psicodude took his pic from 1 and 7 and this is 1 and 6. Easily worse than what it was at the peak of the flood.

Silver lining: if you are going to get flooded twice, back-to-back is pretty much the best timing you can ask for. Stripped out, empty basements.

The amount of water blasting out of that storm drain would be hilarious if it wasn't so tragic.

My best friend lives half a block west of that storm drain and said her basement is dry, thank goodness. She managed to escape the flooding two weeks ago as well, her entire townhouse complex was dry as a bone. I feel so bad for those who now have been hit twice by flooding.

Why is water coming out of the storm drain? Momentum? The water table can't be that high, right?

45 minutes of hard rain flowing down the streets and down the hill from Crescent and Rosedale and then hitting a closed storm drain would be my guess.

IIRC, that's the low end of the storm system. So hydralic pressure from the upstream system would be forcing water to shoot out like that. Would make sense if they are saying the outfalls are still closed. It happened under so much pressure on the Glenmore underpass by Chinook that it blew the tops off the mahnoles, not just the lid but the rings and surrounding asphalt too.
