They've had slow starts before in the McDavid-Draisaitl era (and overcome them), but this feels different.

Oilers aren't as deep as the Panthers and after back to back cups, it appears they are dropping off as a team. They are still going to make the playoffs because of overtime but it's going to be hard for them in the playoffs especially if they get in via wildcard and don't get the Kings in the first round.

I just need to be assured they won’t flip the switch. Last year they didn’t look great even heading into the playoffs but they turned it on and cruised through the west.
I am not going to be excited about their slow start until we are in the second half of the season and they are still losing more than they are winning. They were far worse in 2023 and made the finals. It do cost Woodcroft his job and I am not sure who will be the sacrificial lamb this time?

There's some fun ones, Brandon Shanahan is a Gordie How in the playoffs.
Kippers is 65 minutes, a shutout, and a Loss.
I have about 35 of them written down.

I had to double check, for a second I thought you were missing an "e" on your keyboard. lol
I would like to see this list of 35 that you have, once you publish your book.

Both were also part of my reply. Unless the piece going back in McDavid or Draisaitl there is nothing that will work in terms of assets and cap.

Here's a quick comparison of both seasons after 22 games.
2023/24:
9-12-1 - 19pts
56.82 xGF% (3rd)
55.61 SCF% (4th)
58.21 HDCF% (1st)
2025/26
9-9-4 22pts
48.46 xGF% (22nd)
46.3 SCF% (26th)
45.08 HDCF% (25th)
The 2023 team was a better team. This 2025 team is playing some bad hockey.

A desperation move would be calling up Ingram to throw into the fire before going the trade route (if that is even feasible).

Don't forget the Ref steals Habs/Sens
and the massive fluke late ties late BJs/Flyers
Oilers are LUCKY to have the record they do

Panthers are missing Barkov and Tkachuk too...How would the Oilers missing McDavid and Drai be doing? Even one of them.
Don't give up on the no playoffs dream though, on points percentage even with their overtime record its not looking good for the Oilers. They are only close to a spot now because of games played.

If their management had even the mitochondria of a brain cell they'd have traded Bouchard instead of keeping him for twice the price. They saw his "quit early and often" defense last year and could have decided to shore up the defensive side after getting picked apart in the finals and used the cap space saved and/or assets to fill the blue line PP QB role with a cheaper stopgap.
Given who the McPP has on it, i dont think replacing Bouchard is difficult. Barrie did it before him more than adequately.
He is not worth 10 mil with how he's a net negative most nights. Massively overrated.

That seems like an inevitability.
It will be fun when he's no better because their D hangs them out to dry and no goalie can excel in those harsh conditions.

Oh you doubter! here is a quote from HF that clearly lays out the incredible value Edmonton can offer a team like Nashville for Forsberg or Saros.
"I think we need to swing for the fences and bring in an impact player such as a Forsberg or Saros. I’d give up a 1st, one of Howard/Savoie + prospect quite easily for a cost controlled Forsberg" (Quote from poster McDrai)
thankfully he put in that they would do that "quite easily" as I am not sure the value actually matches up in either of those trades. let alone cap considerations, roster considerations, especially for Nashville, unless Howard/Savioe can slide in and take the spot of a Forsberg, or in any other way that makes sense. But hey. what do I know?

There is a dude. In front of your net. Not being challenged at all. Yeah. He's gonna put it by Skinner.
|
That's because in Edmonton the belief is anyone driving the net is given the right of way! So the defender is just supposed to give up.

Nashville's rookie Wood has more points than both Savoie and Howard combined. I don't think Nashville would trade Wood for either/both or the Oiler trash prospects.

I see Nick Paul tied the game to send it to OT, and hard work beat the Glitter Twins.
Which reminds me of what George Carlin once said: ‘Ten times out of ten, Nicky, Vinny, and Tony will beat the #### out of Tyler, Todd, and Tucker!’

Typical McDavid defense on the Paul goal. He doesn't take a single stride in the defensive zone, just coasts along and tries a stick check from behind.
Whoever that announcer is has the comment, "Connor McDavid is no slouch defensively." Really? The replay says otherwise.
I saw it was 1-0 for the Oilers after two periods, but I knew as long as the Oilers play Bouchard and Nurse in their top 4, a loss is never out of reach.
