The biggest thing going in the Flames favour with not getting Necas is that I can't imagine the Canes want futures coming back. I think he will go in a hockey trade for a dman. Andersson and Weegar are the only players that fit the bill on the Flames and I don't think Conroy is trading either.

That would be entertaining, while we wait for the garden to grow.

Like Sharangovich, for instance.

Necas looked pretty good at C, playing for Czechia, BTW.

You need to gear down a bit.

Necas (nor any other player we might acquire in the short term) is not going to lift the Flames from bottom 10 to no man's land. The Flames are bad, they will be bad next year. But acquiring is literally what a rebuild is for.

I get that the circumstances are entirely different yet its still funny to read all theses "Necas, no!!!!" type posts when not long ago it was "We could have had Necas instead of Huberdeau?? No!!!!"

Calgary finished 9th with Marky having a decent season and contributions from our deadline deal players for 2/3rds of the season.

If Marky is traded, Calgary will likely be closer to bottom 5 than 11-13.

Of course, that depends on some trades/UFA signings. But it's hard to imagine Hanifin/Tanev being replaced.

They won't be trading the 9OA pick. And no one would trade it for Necas.

He was 23 at the time, and that would have kick started a rebuild. We would have just finished year 2 of the rebuild now, so yeah it made sense back at the time.

Now now.

He did not look good at center in the NHL, that is why they moved him to his natural position of RW. There is a reason why he was 8th on the team in faceoffs taken this year and was moved to the wing to accommodate a 23 year old Jack Drury to take his place in his rookie year.

I would think that if the Flames are moving the 9OA pick it would be for a player like Zegras and not someone like Necas.

That said maybe the Flames decide to move both first round picks and add in both Zegras and Necas while signing Dumba to a three year deal on defense.

The Flames were 31-26-5 with a full roster, and Markstrom playing like a Vezina candidate.

After the trade deadline, they were 7-13-0, good for 29th in the league. And that was with Markstrom. Yes, they will be a bottom 10 team this year, maybe bottom 5.

There’s been a few rumours of Winnipeg trading Perfetti. Not sure what they would want in return, but there’s a good, young player with promise we should target if the rumours are true.

It would be easier to just fold the franchise.

Tell them to add the great Nate Schmidt and we throw in our higher 2nd this year and call it a deal.

Flames also finished 3 points from a playoff spot with Marky playing terrible the year before?

Every year is unpredictable for these middling teams like the Flames. We could finish bottom 5 maybe but also could be the second wildcard

Markstrom was terrible after the deadline - Wolf and Vladar were both considerably better. The Flames won’t get as good goaltending next season as they got from Markstrom in the first two-thirds of the season, but they’ll probably get better goaltending they got at the tail end.

I don’t know about considerably better, because Vladar and Wolf were terrible all year.
