I watched Little Bird on crave recently. It coincidentally is also a limited series. It's Canadian indigenous about a girl/woman who was taken from her family in Saskatchewan in the sixties scoop and adopted by a Jewish family in Montreal.
It's pretty good for a Canadian show, although obviously it's not exactly a barrel of laughs so you have to be in the mood for it. Six 45-50 minute episodes.
Just finished season 2 of the Bear and WOW- it was phenomenal. No spoilers but it's the best thing I have watched in a long time- Just give them all the awards now

I'm really enjoying "Winning Time" with John C Reilly. It's about the LA Lakers dynasty in the 80s. I love biopics about relentless hedonism, and John and his merry band of NBA degenerates deliver the goods.

I enjoyed it as well. I believe season two comes out in August?
Yeah Winning Time is a lot of fun. Apparently they play it pretty fast and loose with the characterization of some people, but whatever it's damn good entertainment. Looking forward to season 2.
My new obsession after Alone is now 60 Days In. It's an A&E show about people being plants within the jail system in the USA. The general purpose is these participants are supposed to last at least 2 months in a jail while reporting back problems within the system.

I had not head about this until today.

The CBC and BBC Studios are developing the half-hour about a family in a witness protection living next door in the U.K. to Canada’s most-hardened criminals as fellow program members and neighbors.
Yeah really disappointed by Black Mirror latest “season”. Even the one episode that people seemed to praise didn’t really work at all for me. The idea well seems to be bone dry.

I actually enjoyed all episodes this season.
Admittedly episodes 2, 4, and 5 weren’t very Black Mirror-y …but they were fun TV nonetheless.

I'm liking the newest Black Mirror - but it's not what I expected. The one set in the late 70s with the Boney M demon was just a great bit of creativity and execution.
I think the challenge for the show is similar to what the late shows faced when Trump came around. They couldn't make funnier what was already utterly surreal and basically self-satirizing. Black Mirror can't make more disturbing a world that already has deep fakes, people falling in love with chatbots, killer drones, heat domes, and a sense of pending climate annihilation and mass extinctions.
On that cheery note, the new Bruce McCullough sponsored sketch show the Dessert is tragically unfunny. I adore Bruce, but I think he bet on the wrong horse with this one.
It's no secret that Netflix (and most streaming services for that matter) have little interest in releasing shows or movies on physical media. Occasionally, a title might make its way to Blu-ray, but it's genuinely surprising when it does happen. This has become a real sticking point for many viewers, as stuff keeps disappearing from streaming services as companies look to cut costs by saving on royalties.
Yesterday's 'pirates' are, in some cases, the only hope for archival preservation of a growing amount of shows and movies. I have purchased several pirated Blu-ray copies of Midnight Mass, am very impressed with the quality and presentation, and I am profoundly grateful they exist. Godspeed, noble archivists."
Flanagan explained in his post that Netflix and other companies removing content from services has made him change his tune regarding piracy. "I used to be vehemently opposed to piracy. I have completely changed my stance on that issue," he said while also declaring that, "Physical media is critical."
The thing that makes me really angry is that we all got on board with these streaming services because we pay money for content, what is sometimes lost is that we actually pay money for 'access to content' as opposed to actually owning our own copies.
But I think most of us did this under the belief that that content would always be accessible, much like a Library. This is most certainly turning out to not be the case.
This means that creators get screwed out of royalties, back-end revenues on DVD sales have evaporated, and some of this content that many of these talented creators toiled over tirelessly is simply going to evaporate into the ether.
I always think back a little. One of my favourite little movies of all time was a box-office disaster. Then it gained a little traction on Home Video, and then a little more and now I'd wager its considered one of the greatest movies.
That little flick is called: "The Shawshank Redemption."
They are killing this opportunity to find hidden gems.
I will never, ever forgive what they did to 'Final Space' and to disappear a show like 'Midnight Mass' to the void of some 'Netflix Abu Ghraib Blacksite' is unforgiveable.
Its been a long time since I've bought a DVD, and even the prospect is rather quaint, but I agree with Flanagan, I think we seriously have to consider bringing back physical media.

Good point. The Boney M episode, while not Black Mirror-y, was entertaining. But I thought episodes 3 and 4 were just bad honestly. 1 was ok, 2 was decent IMO.

Add that to the long list of reasons why I have my own Plex server. At this point piracy isn't about the money anymore, it's about convenience and not being at the whims of a streaming provider
