Congratulations to Jankowski! Was a long road but so happy for him! Hope that takes some weight off his shoulders as well as Bennett and Jagr, as they now know they CAN score as a line and it leads to many more down the road.

He looked even better, and faster after his goal. Feeling it.

How many predicted he would score his first goal hip thrusting the rebound off his Chad Johnson?

I've been seeking professional help but that's how I imagine everyone scoring.

Great thing is, if you posted this in the PGT and not here I wouldn't have known whether you were talking about Gaudreau, Jagr, or Jankowski.

It is funny going back to the beginning of this thread and seeing all the butt hurt people. Not blaming them, I guess it is just nice for things to work out once in a while.

All you have to ask now is "Do I trust the Calgary Flames amateur scouting."

Personally I think Calgary is overloaded with bottom six players so drafting a player who is top 3 or bust makes sense to me. Why get another for sure moss when you can throw the dice and get a getzlaf.

These were my two favourite posts from draft day, one from a Canuck's fan of all people, lol.

heck if someone had told you on that day in 2012 that in 2017 he would score his first goal assisted from Jagr I don't even think people would have been able to guess which league it would be in

Don’t see any reason why he can’t centre the top line at some point. As long as his work ethic keeps up. We know he has skills

Jagr's vision to make that play was next level... hahaha
Skimming through this thread is an interesting time capsule. Lots of people predicting Janko would be centering Baertschi around now. And it turns out to be Jaromir Jagr! F'in crazy...

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. Its probably going to take some time before we know if he’s going to be a difference maker or a bottom six forward. He looks like he can be an NHL player which is just one step.

Being that Jankowski looks like he's in the NHL to stay, and is starting to produce, showing glimpses of the type of offensive and defensive center he can be, does anyone who hated the pick back then still hate it now? Seems like a homerun pick for a late 1st rounder, even if it did take 5 years to get him to the show.

I don't think I hated the pick but questioned it for sure. Obviously I was wrong there and it worked out.
That being said if the exact same scenario came up this draft - I would likely question it again. Jankowski in working out feels to me like the outlier as opposed to the normal result for such a project.
EDIT: to add - I have no data to show if my hypothesis that these mega project players pan out less than others is true or not. So I definetly could be wrong.

I said it before and I still think in hindsight Jankowski was the perfect player for the Flames to select going into a rebuild. He needed time to develop and so franchise needed time to get on the rails. It also makes me believe Button and the scouting staff have some other gems in our system.

I didn't hate it as far as the player was concerned mainly because of a lack of knowledge (although all the criticism after it was made troubled me). But there is the trading down from 14 part. I suspect he would have been available anyway if the Flames had simply made a move to get just a second round pick. So they would have had, let's say, a Teravainen or Maata plus Jankowski.

I can only speak for myself, but I didn't hate it for a long time. At first sure, because I wanted Maatta ... but watching Janko develop over the years has actually been fun as a fan. The patience surely paid off.
