Though the plot of The Passion of the Christ 2 is still being kept under wraps, speculation has abounded. Over the years, there have been consistent reports that Jesus' resurrection will not be the main focus; rather, that the film will focus on the three days between Jesus' death and resurrection, where many Christians believe Jesus descended into Hell. Many of The Passion of the Christ's scenes weren't in the Bible, and the sequel could continue that trend.
Holy ####...that could be an insane movie. Maybe I actually want to watch it?

I'm not going to defend Mel Gibson, but it's fully in line for any political thread to rail on someone out of context. I looked in on what Gibson was doing, around the Hacksaw Ridge era 2016, and he had gotten sober, worked to repair his damage to the Jewish community and domestic abuse survivors, and generally seemed to be trying to not be such an ass. I thought that he was being let back into Hollywood. It was sort of a 'oh, isn't forgiveness nice' story.
Now it looks like he is deep in his Nic Cage, 'I will play any part in any movie' era of his career, and he in not doing anything of note. What actually tf happened over covid to this guy? Loon part two? Off the wagon?
Which is totally fair, but bringing up the stuff that he spent years trying to make up for is kind of the wrong message, too.
Did he just unfortunately get caught up in MAGA, and now he's lost like a heroin addict?

The Following User Says Thank You to Makarov For This Useful Post:
I like Mel Gibson movies... Although I never watched The Passion. Braveheart, Apocalypto, Hacksaw Ridge, The Man With No Face, and the upcoming Flight Risk looks interesting.
Gibson hasn't been involved with many "bombs" over the years. Recently he's been going the direct to streaming route like Bruce Willis and John Cusack, but those movies have tiny budgets.
I know that's not the point of the discussion, but as a strict filmmaker/actor Gibson has done well for himself. Most of his personal (religious and evolution) views are obviously laughable.
Whats the latest on the reason for the ban on TikTok?
I'm of the mind that most forms of social media have contributed to the current state of society. But there are large swaths of socially liberal people that are quite upset about the ban. I don't have tik tok, most of my social media consumption is this forum.
It has given marginalized people voices in the Trump/republican created chaos. It's algorithms are so strong that it allows people to "organize" ie spread information that others would seek to suppress. I think it has also helped in mental health circles, where people who are closed off can be reached or feel seen.
I have also heard/read that some of the security reasons for the ban are largely over blown, and a bigger reason for the ban is that Zuckerberg got his stinky mitts in it and lobbied hard for the ban, because it is the single greatest threat to Meta.
Anyway, I try not to spend too much time in the dark places of the internet, and aside from the addiction aspect, I've seen mostly positive things come from tik tok.
Meta has denied directly lobbying on the TikTok ban, but the company spent a record sum lobbying in 2024, including on “Homeland Security” topics. In March 2022, the Washington Post reported that Meta paid a firm called Targeted Victory to push the narrative that TikTok is dangerous to children. And Zuckerberg himself has spent the last five years painting a picture to Congress that his monopolistic company faces great competition, actually, from Chinese companies and more importantly from China itself. This story has served Meta extraordinarily well, as he has been able to distract from Meta’s myriad privacy violations and monopolistic actions by saying it would be worse if China wins. Meta is not a monopoly, he says. It is a company fighting on behalf of America against China and Chinese companies for the soul of the internet.
Antiabortion advocates look for men to report their partners’ abortions
Quote:
As antiabortion advocates launch legal efforts to stop abortion pills from reaching women in states with bans, they are increasingly turning to one group with uniquely intimate and specific informationto help them find cases: male sex partners of women who decided to end their pregnancies.
Quote:
This partner-focused approach will shift to a more public phase next month when Texas’s largest antiabortion organization launches an advertising campaign on Facebook and X to reach the husbands, boyfriends and sex partners of women who have had abortions in the state — with the goal of recruiting them to file lawsuits against those who assisted the women in ending their pregnancies.
In completely unrelated news, scientists have begun to investigate the rapidly increasing out-migration of predominantly female peoples from Texas. No leads yet. Politicians baffled. Lonely men...lonelier.
Someone on the radio said they use Tiktok as a small business, and he thinks the ban will lead to people(creators?) going on strike.
People, it turns out, are not all that bright.
Democrat Ro Khanna was just over CNN ripping into the TikTok ban and calling the government's action tone death and bad for content creator who rely on the income from being a content creator on that platform. His President banned the app and his party voted for the bill to shut it down. What a joke.
