I really really hope the Jays trade for Kimbrel. It's just that he's got a vesting option that will likely kick in for next year and the Jays would be on the hook for the extra $16 million. I don't know, they don't seem to be very big on paying huge dollars in the bullpen.
But man, Kimbrel and Romano on the back end of the bullpen this year and next? Plus if Merryweather ever gets healthy? Sign me up hombre.

Question. I think Tampa Bay tried it a few years back, but why doesn't any team start with a reliever for a couple innings, then go to their starter for an additional five or six innings, just to mess with opposing batters' timing? I know a starter gets rewarded with a W only after 5 innings, but knowing that there's many more statistics every team looks into aside from wins, it wouldn't hurt any team statistically to let this happen.

Teams are starting to do this all the time (Jays included). MLB has actually discussed ways to stop this from happening, like having a modified DH rule where you're only allowed to us the DH when your starting pitcher is in the game and things like that.

It looked like it was going to catch on, but it sort of stalled out and seems to be on the decline again. I think the players really don't like it as it could greatly affect their earnings when contract time comes around ( https://blogs.fangraphs.com/theres-a...to-the-opener/). I think it's usage will be limited going forward, mostly to help protect new pitchers trying to make the move from AAA to MLB.

Apparently Manoah slipped going down some stairs at Sahlen field and experienced some "back soreness". He may miss a start and the Jays may bring Hatch up to take that start.
You cannot make this #### up.

I look at the Sox team and don’t see how they’re as good as their record. Looking for a big series win to get back in this thing.

While, yes, Roark was the ol' diesel engine that couldn't, I don't think there's much difference between Hatch and Roark in on field results.
I suggest the Jays just keep murdering the balls as pitching is unlikely to help them in that game.

The Red Sox win a bulk of their 1 run games and have a great record in extra innings. The Jays are the opposite.
Really the Jays should have a comparable record to the Red Sox, but they have squandered games they should have won and been on the wrong side of close games.

Jays are 4-5 against the Red Sox yet have outscored them 57-36 so far this season. That pretty much sums up the horseshoes that the Red Sox have had this season against the Jays. Hopefully that changes tonight and the Jays punch the Sox right in their stupid punchable faces.

What a year…
https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2187891
The Toronto Blue Jays placed right-hander Alek Manoah on the 10-day IL after he slipped on the dugout steps and injured his back, the team announced Monday.
The club recalled Thomas Hatch, who is expected to start in Manoah's place Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox.

Also, it's gross hearing the opposing team getting the cheers when they hit.
Can't wait for them to get back to TO.
