Gaudreau is not a play-off performer and won't help the Caps over the hump. Ovi is not good long term value like John is.

The deal doesn't make sense for either team.
Gaudreau is a better playoff performer than Ovi so why would you use that in your argument? You are going to trade a young star LW for a selfish player on the decline who costs way more? Crazy.

I never said that the trade was a good idea, I thought it was pretty clear that the trade makes no sense.

I'm with you believe me. OK is not the answer, but the Flames may be in the position where they have to gamble on OK again. It's why I wanted Bishop so badly, because in my eyes he's far better than OK.

I believe Vegas can make trades involving non-active players. So the moment Pittsburgh is eliminated (/wins the cup), Vegas can trade for MAF.

How is Gaudreau better than Ovi in the playoffs? Certainly not by any measurable stat.

That being said, it would be ridiculously stupid to trade him for Ovi. Ovi will either finish his contract as a Cap or retire and head to Russia eventually.

Meh.

I watched more Oilers hockey than I'd like to ever do again this playoffs and wasn't impressed by him at all.

To each their own.

How so? Ovechkin was so bad in the playoffs over the past few years he got demoted to 3rd line duty.

I agree that there could be some potential left, but at 25 it's likely not much.

I would also question what was Ferlands general pace. He started hot, but had just 1 point in the last 10 games. Overall the sample size is too small to IMO say it proved much anything.

Ovechkin was a beast in last year's playoffs.

Bold Prediction: Tre swings for the fences and lands Ovechkin in a trade. We get that RW for the top line

Just get them to retain some salary and take Brouwer back in return.

No problemo.

Easy peasy.

Not if Caps take back salary. I am just making a Bold Prediction, let Tre work his magic

Please god no. I wouldn't take Ovechkin on this team if Washington was willing to take back Brouwer, Stajan and Bouma.

He is a great goal scorer, but that's all he is. He is more interested in scoring goals than winning games. Any team Ovechkin plays on will not win the Cup.

Haha. Just goes to show you that you could never please everyone no matter what.

Tre trades Brouwer, Stajan and Bouma for Ovechkin, CP explodes with joy but the thread is hijacked by an unhappy JTech780 who claims boldly "Flames will never win the Cup now!"
