Yeah I posted that before I finished reading. I still disagree with his complaints about Jon’s death but the rest was interesting Some of the points were a tad pedantic but overall it does have a similar tone to the previous article. The show shifted so much.

A lot of Martin's 'source material' from the last couple books was complete trash, and thankfully dropped from the series.

Yeah, most of the Iron Islands drama was a complete waste of time.

Yeah, theres this hilarious pining for GRRM's 'Original Content' and how the show went off the rails once it surpassed his writing.

I do think the show benefited from the structure of the original material while also still being savvy enough to cut out some of the unnecessary bloat. Last season was also a bit of a mess and could just be an outlier or it could have been when Thrones jumped the shark.

I think thats a fairly bookreader-centric outlook on the story.

I've found that the fans of the books have been deluded into believing that this story was just going to go on forever because George would just invent new Kingdoms and Characters and they'd all just go on killing each other ad infinitum which leads to their disappointment in the show because the show cant just keep making crap up as they go along, they've got to end it at some point.

Yup, definitely was meaning this. No good.
Severslbother peculiar things that came out of no where too, and took up a lot of space and time, that I'm sure where also going absolutely no where.

Regarding last season (mostly), I have zero issue with timelines, ever. In any story.
I do understand that others do.

That wasn't my issue with last season. It was mostly just some of the more ridiculous and nonsensical plots/outcomes. They just felt out of place with previous seasons. That said, I do feel like last season was a lot of fan-service, with satisfying outcomes in many of the episodes and I wouldn't be surprised to see the show revert to form this year.

Agreed, Martin lost the plot (literally) by the 4th book. But it's not as though the show runners had a choice of:

A) Follow Martin's convoluted digressions in the latter novels faithfully.

or

B) Make up a bunch of dumb #### that stretches credulity far beyond the breaking point.

They could have actually written some intelligent scripts that hewed to the spirit and approach of the first three books and first four seasons of the show. As much as I admire the work of Benioff and Weiss in bringing the books to the screen and putting out several seasons of high quality TV, the last three seasons have shown they aren't very good at coming up with original content and scripting an epic story.

Really just looking forward to a version of how this all ends up. It will share the largest beats with the books I'm sure. I'm excited to see how these characters will continue to come together and bounce off each other as everything comes to an end. It's been a helluva ride.

There are some payoffs that are expected. Cercei's demise, Hound vs. Mountain, Jon discovering his lineage, etc. However, they've framed this as a fight for humanity at the same time.

It's going to be fun to see how they decide to unfold the remaining story.

Haha! I was talking to a book-reader yesterday who refuses to watch last season or this one because he wants to see the outcome George's way when he finished the books.

And I want to be King of Switzerland and broker peace in the Middle East.

Which do you figure is more likely to happen?

I want both. Maybe even the King/peace bit.

They've diverged so much that it's now two different stories with the same settings and characters.

Its just a fallacy at that point though.

He could change it just to be different or he could keep it the same or, more likely, he could never finish it at all.

Obviously the books wont have the same constraints as the TV show. Nor will they ever be as popular.

Hell, maybe he'll troll all the readers and write himself in and sit on the Iron Throne himself.

Why would he?

Hes already been paid and somebody else has already finished the story for him.

Thats a win/win for someone who has been dragging a project out since the dawn of time.
