This team is magical. 9 points in this window without Davies.

After all that, not sure how the goalie didn't get his hand on it after the first bounce on the goalline, I guess he just didn't have enough momentum or push that way.

Yeah we get Gareth Wheeler and Terry Dunfield. Why, when we have the biggest showcase for the program in decades do we have to suffer through that? I have no idea. It’s the one thing about this run that is terrible.

I have debated it. I brought it up “in passing” at home and my wife didn’t say no…

I don't think one point technically does it. Panama could still tie them, but would need to make up the 13 goal differential.
For the next match day, I think it would take a Canada win, or US loss, or Panama loss or draw for an official clinch.
It's pretty much a lock now though. It takes about 11-12 matches going exactly wrong for Canada to finish 4th.

Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Medical Committee Chairman Dr Guyan Arscott has confirmed that six persons from the Costa Rican delegation, including two who played against the Reggae Boyz in their Concacaf World Cup qualifier at the National Stadium on Wednesday tested positive for COVID-19.
Arscott told The Gleaner in an exclusive interview the players and officials tested positive COVID 19 on arrival in Jamaica on Tuesday.
“I can confirm that there were six Costa Ricans that tested [positive for COVID-19]. Three were non-players and three were players,” said Arscott.

No idea why we can't have Nigel Reed.... that guy is damn legend and so, so good at football commentary. On a related note, his coverage of Cavalry just ups their broadcasts all the time when commentating for One Soccer.

That was a pure Concacaf win. Pre-match shenanigans, choppy and scrappy, dives, a complete fluke garbage goal, and a very real chance that could've ended up in an undeserved draw for El Salvador. I actually think that the ref did a decent job and waved away a lot of softies that we've all seen called before. He didn't take the bait.
Make no mistake, the old Canada would find a way to lose matches like that. Regularly.
But this is not the old Canada, and I couldn't be happier with that ugly win. We have been treated to some entertaining matches in this cycle and some huge wins, but the key has always been to find a way to win matches like this.

Actually the refereeing in this Octagonal has been pretty good, amazing to say. I think having MLS and Champions League, Concacaf Cup etc.. has improved the standard of refereeing.
Meanwhile, the refereeing at the African Nations Cup has been a shambles, even with VAR.

A Canada draw would clinch the playoff at the very least.
But a Canada draw and a Mexico-USA draw would also do it (because then the US/Panama couldn't both get to 26).

Yep, those 2 draws would do it too.
I think Canada clinched 4th last night. Costa has to win all their games to tie Canada. That would mean USA would have a loss to Costa Rica, and the USA and Panama couldn't both get to 25 points.

Update!
This cycle is over except for Senegal in the African final, Cameroon and Egypt in today's semifinal.
So I ran some numbers and this is the top teams possible to make the World Cup going by the latest rankings.
Teams already qualified in bold
Pot 1
48. Qatar (hosts)
1. Belgium
2. Brazil
3. France
4. Argentina
5. England
6. Italy (over 8. Portugal, 37. Turkey and 67. N. Macedonia)
7. Spain
Pot 2
9. Denmark
10. Netherlands
11. Germany
12. Mexico
13. USA
14. Switzerland
15. Croatia
16. Uruguay
Pot 3
18. Sweden (over 28. Poland, 32. Czech, 34. Russia
19. Senegal (over 37. Egypt)
20. Wales (over 27. Ukraine, 30. Austria, 40. Scotland
21. Iran
23. Japan
24. Serbia
25. Morocco (over 64. DR Congo)
29. South Korea
Pot 4
32. Nigeria (over 52. Ghana)
33. Canada
39. Cameroon (over 43. Algeria)
30. Tunisia (over 53. Mali)
44. Ecuador
53. Saudi Arabia
- Intercontinental
- Intercontinental
European playoff teams that get in will play 2 games, already qualified Euros are done.
Concacaf 3, Comnebol 2, Asia 2, Africa 2 (except Senegal, Cameroon and Egypt who have AFCON still). So Cameroon or Egypt could jump Canada by the end of the week.
We need to cheer for Scotland, Algeria, Ghana, DR Congo, Mali and Russia.

Last night was fun. It's just so much fun having a decent national team.
I like the panel at one soccer, but I hope at some point we can upgrade the PBP.
