A couple friends at WestJet dropped some hints on me that a "special blue bird" was coming so I assumed it'd be a Blue Jays theme, which I'm told is still possible. I also thought it'd be one of this year's new incoming planes, of which there are 3 to come shortly, but it's tail 818 which was delivered in 2009.
Public reaction to the existing Disney plane is extremely positive, a show stopper wherever she goes. With the popularity of Frozen I bet this does even better.
Saw a huge quad jet just leaving Calgary so jumped on flight aware. Looks like the Antonov An-124 going to Anchorage. Anyone have an idea on what they are transporting? I know this plane has been here before but I think it's pretty rare.

It came up from Houston and was only here about 2 hours, so I think we may have just been a fuel stop.
The Antonov 124's aren't too rare around here, we'll usually get them a handful of times each year.
I'm trying to find a list or schedule of direct, non stop flight from YYC to destinations to sort out potential vacation destinations. With little ones, transferring in airports makes a lousy situation downright miserable and I'd like to stick to non stop flights.
Specifically, I need to know the dates these flights are in operation if they are seasonal (ie YYC-OGG runs Nov 1 to April on AC)
The airlines and destinations section of YYC's Wikipedia page is actually a good place to start to figure out if somebody flies somewhere, and to nail down dates I just use a given airline's online flight schedule if they have one on their website, else I just create dummy bookings to figure out if a flight is happening on a given day. The latter can be time consuming but you can get pretty quick at it.
Snagged this from Facebook... Elsa and company are in Calgary now, resting on pad N110 just north of the terminal. Mickey just landed from Vancouver so they're both at YYC.

I saw a big passenger jet approach the old N-S runway at about 6pm with a small jet within 100' of it. They did a low fly over of the runway then kept going.
I spent the remainder of my drive wonder what the hell it was, now I'm wondering if it was a photo opp?
/u/kennedon on Reddit did a really cool history of the first WestJet 767 (formerly a Qantas bird). Interesting to note that this plane had a bird strike back in 2006, but was able to land safely after increased vibrations in the left engine.

It was this.
