It would just show that when push came to shove and he really needed to be a leader and change his game or push the coach to change the team's game, he decided to quit on them instead.

If he leaves the Oilers without leading some real team success, he'll leave them looking like just a super-talented supporting piece, not the captain of any cup caliber team.

Would his ego tolerate a demotion like that? Based on how he accepts the team being entirely built around his performance now, I'm not sure.

I don't think the police department in any other market would drop everything to find Connor' stolen laptop he left in his car.

I think we are looking at this leadership thing with McDavid a little too deep. Let’s be honest, McDavid has no desire to be a leader or the face. He is bad with the media, says some dumb things when questioned on hockey issues, and is not the guy that other players want to rally around. I think he would be very happy being a support player who gets accolades and acknowledgment for his own individual achievements but is never grilled about the team or its success.

Yeah, I don't think Connor is pulling guys aside in the Locker Room or anything.

I know that you were wondering: Sherlock Staples says that the goalies are to blame for the oilers not converting “grade A” scoring chances into goals.

I think he has no desire to actually handle the responsibilities of those roles, but the roles themselves are vanity metrics to him, just like scoring 150 will be for him this season while his team as a whole is merely fighting for a wildcard spot. The vanity metrics clearly matter to him.

STOP! The Oilers' won last night - the Stanley Cup parade preparations are back on in Edmonton today. The Player's only meeting and Staples article this week did the trick - the bottom six and bottom pairings now know it was all their fault and that the "in" group and the captain expect more from them and they delivered last night with the winning goal... cue the championship, raise the banner.

Just to confirm, the Oilers lost because their goalie let in more goals and the opposing teams goalie let in less?

I mean that's some serious 4D chess. Nice work Staples.

So. Sounds like Staples believes the NHL should adopt a rule stating that opposing teams not be allowed to use there goalie while playing them. This might give the a chance to win.

It's not fair! Goalies play too hard against the Oilers!

Goalies should just lay down for McDavid out of respect.
Have to protect the league's best players and all that.
